I didn't really give that much consideration. I just assumed that worms was spouting off dumb stuff again.

you guys are just talking about things obama has done that were bad or that you disagree with, not that he projects a constantly shifting image of himself. That's what a phony (Romney) does. "I once believed x, now I believe y because it is more likely to make people like me." Whatever you think of Obama's performance, I don't think he's changed who he says he is?

this is fine, but how does it make him a phony? :dunno:

ditto this...if he was a phony, he would have thrown Holder under the bus after years of supporting him

Ultra liberals consider him a sellout because he paid off his financial sector support in bailouts. Obama's presidency has been defined by putting out the fire of the day. He hasn't dealt in providing any type of long term vision. I could point out the same type of flip flops by the populist response like gitmo, the patriot act, cutting the deficit in half...etc

He had a golden opportunity to push for Bowles Simpson which he commissioned and he would have been a clintonian-esque boost in approval

He has ultimately kicked the can down the road and will be campaigning on being the guy who won't do it again. At a minimum it's dishonest. Discretionary spending is what 36% of the budget. this spending spiral is almost on autopilot.

I got it. But none of this is phony, dude.

Not having a "long term vision" is not phony. He didn't change his mind on gitmo or the patriot act in order to win votes, in fact, it has cost him dearly among the ultra liberal as you say. Missing out on Bowles Simpson is not phony.

Romney is a phony because his positions oscillate solely in order to attract the most voters. Obama has over promised, missed opportunities and been outmaneuvered on several occasions, but this is not phony.

he;s just changing the benchmark for phony so his hero doesn't fit in it... Same song and dance they use to defend obama in every situation...

He changed his policies because of shifting public outcry... For obama thats just being sensitive to his electorate, for a republican, thats being phony... rigged deck

He never changed his policies, he just lied to his voting base on what he would do. Now these same voters are running to defend them.

It doesn’t matter what is right as long as you can get the people to believe you are right.

He was fervently trying to close gitmo initially with big resistance, once a majority of dems changed their minds he called off the dogs...

Anyone with half of a brain knew Gitmo could not be closed, especially in a year. He is either a liar or a moron.

To say there's no difference between a "phony" Mitt and a "phony" Obama is crazy. Obama made campaign promises that he never followed through on, which is pretty typical of politicians, and what I expect from Santorum, Gingrich (especially) and Paul (no way could he do everything he says he would do). But Romney is a different breed of phony - he's trying to tell the voter that he's the clear conservative, when everything he did as governor speaks as a moderate. As an independent, I had planned on voting Romney when I looked at his record for Mass. thinking he was a good alternative, but with all the garbage he's spewing to appease the tea party, there is no way I would vote for this guy now.

The ultra conservatives of the tea party are ruining any chance they have of getting a new president. People don't want a president who is to the right or left, they prefer one in the middle, but by making the candidates look ultra conservative (Santorum's the only clear conservative, and he has no shot IMO - he could only win 1 term as Senator), they are losing the independent vote.
