Hopefully he does practice tomorrow but those rib bruises suck, one good hit, he wont play the whole game on Sunday
aaaa 0 Posted September 14, 2012 Gates had to leave the game in week 1 and he didn't even get hit. This is just like every nagging injury Gates has ever had. seems like nothing, limited in practice, then limited in games, and then sidelined. Gates is done man. This has been the story for a few years now, he'll never be close to what we remember him for. Sad to say it, but that's what happens after you play in the NFL for more than a decade. Owners have a legitimate reason to be worried after he was proclaimed "the healthiest he's been in years." we were duped, and we'll be dealing with this all season long. Get used to it. tanatastic 2,062 Posted September 14, 2012 He's fine, just making sure he doesn't get worse. I don't want him practicing.
aaaa 0 Posted September 14, 2012 Shhhh haven't you ever heard of a reverse jinx?? Gates is done man. Less than 50 yards on sunday.
tanatastic 2,062 Posted September 14, 2012 Shhhh haven't you ever heard of a reverse jinx?? Gates is done man. Less than 50 yards on sunday. Dude! Once you say it out loud it reverses the reverse. The fantasy gods are not happy about this..
aaaa 0 Posted September 14, 2012 Well I guess we're really screwed now. Not expecting anything more than 4 catches, 40 yards and a fumble and an INT.
rallo 136 Posted September 14, 2012 whats the word boys n girls.....worthy of a thread i believe. he practices friday please delete mike....thanks. This is standard gates... the coaching staff will baby him throughout the year because of his degenerative foot problem. Couple that with his sore ribs and we won't be practicing wed/thurs all year. Same thing has been going on for the last 2 years. Nothing to see here. Start with confidence
lod 0 Posted September 14, 2012 I see that he did at least return to practice on Thursday... Thu, Sep 13 Gates (ribs) returned to practice Thursday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Recommendation: Gates is no stranger to missing practices or being limited in them, but there's no indication that his Week 2 status is in any doubt due to his currently banged up ribs. Easy there chicken little. He was healthy and this injury has nothing to do with preseason. I saw the hit where it happened. He got stood up trying to get extra yards and took a shot to the ribs. he will be fine.
Frozenbeernuts 2,254 Posted September 14, 2012 They letting gates play some Qb now? Haven't you been watching Chargers practice? Turner is installing a new TE pass option. Gates can run, pass, or punt it. Going to put his value through the roof.

Whether he plays this week or not, it's gonna be drama all year long. I couldn't believe what his ADP was, and thus stayed away in all leagues. I'm a longtime gates fanboy, even fantasy aside. He was just a beast of a player and a physical specimen, and he played the game hard. Always have and always will be a fan. Even got his jersey, even though I'm a jets fan. But he's not going to be anything more than a middle of the road TE, the likes of which that could have been had well later in drafts. Fools good this year... Skinny_Bastard 157 Posted September 14, 2012 Practiced today. Sore ribs. Doesn't see like anything. The dude just needs rest.
p00h 85 Posted September 14, 2012 wow, actually I was joking. I'm not worried about Gates at all this year, and think he'll produce as a second tier TE all year long. if he plays 14ish games, he'll produce decently, but not any better than a ton of mid tier TEs. His adp was entirely too high. ANd I'm not confident he'll play 14 games, which drops him down even further...
Dsausage 36 Posted September 14, 2012 This is standard for him. He is a big physical guy and never practices during the week. People forget so fast. I am starting him with confidence against a bad D (32nd)vs the TE position.
RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted September 15, 2012 Gates always has had foot issues. He reportedly lost weight this offseason to alleviate the issues he has had with his foot... Argument could be had that the loss of weight leaves him more susceptible to upper body injuries such as this. Sore ribs on Gates is certainly a worry. Yes it's an injury you can play through... But for a big TE who's big strength is going up high to get a ball over smaller players, he is more exposed to take shots in the ribs than a lot of other players. I think he is fine for now, but the only thing that heals ribs is time and rest... If he takes another shot it could be a problem.
