Many, including myself, believe there is media bias.

My question is why do most "seem" to slant to the left. Why do media outlets and their employees tend to be Democrats?

Are the left's policies that much more helpful to those in the media?

Psssst. The whole concept of a media bias is just bullshiot. There are slanted stations (Fox to the right, MSNBC to the left) but they make no attempt to convince you otherwise. As for the bulk of mainstream media, it is not biased. It's just that Republicans/conservatives are so brianwashed that they think that anyone who doesn't agree with with them 100% is playing for the other team. It's a combination of inferiority complex, paranoia, and making up excuses for election losses and public opinion. Hope this helps

CNN told me today that i was going to have alot more money in my pocket for the holidays because gas is down $0.08. Thats like $5-10 a month. I thought the person was joking but they continued on about it...

Then they said the holiday season was shaping up BIG and was estimated to be a whopping 4% higher than last year...

I then realized there is an election going on in a few weeks...

I think the media leans slightly to the left. New York City is the biggest media hub in really the world, and NYC is obviously a left-leaning city. Journalists also tend to be more liberal than average, so there coverage sometimes reflects that worldview. I think examples of bias are pretty rare and almost always unintentional, but it's there.

Republicans tend to wildly overstate the amount of bias out there. They also disregard Fox, political talk radio, right-wing blogs and sites, etc. when they talk about the media. Fox is IMO particularly shameless in not even pretending to be anything but the propaghanda arm of the GOP. With the possible exception of MSNBC no other outlet comes close to being as biased as Fox.

It would be great if more Republicans would go into journalism. Unfortuantely most jobs in the media don't pay really well and they aren't that glamorous. Republicans don't seem real interested in reporting or writing news stories, unless you count wingnut sites like WND.com and Front Page Mag. I wouldn't call that "news" though.

Fox = Right

CNBC = Left

Are you really going to tell me the other major news outlets are just reporting the facts? Not as they see them, JUST the facts with ZERO spin.

Wasn't Dan Rather one of the stalwarts of the "unbiased", mainstream media for decades? Yet he got run out of town for fabricating documents to make Bush look bad just weeks before the election.

What is this icon of journalistic integrity up to these days?

Dan Rather implies Ohio GOP could steal the election

Former CBS newsman Dan Rather warned Facebook fans of his show on axs.tv that Mitt Romney could conceivably take Ohio, particularly since the state is controlled by Republicans.

“Keep in mind: The whole upper tier of Ohio state government is in the hands of the GOP now,” Rather explained in a Facebook post this morning. “In very close voting they have the power to influence what votes are counted and how.”

Rather warned, “Remember Ohio, Bush v. Kerry in 2004 and Florida, Bush v. Gore in 2000.”

Ol' Danny Boy sounds a little paranoid.

It's a shame you had to type 2 paragraphs of BS until you gave me a real answer to the question.

So, low wages and non-glamorous jobs are what attract Liberals to the media.

First off, I'm not talking about the Rush Limbaugh's, Sean Hannity, and Rachel Maddow shows. Those are biased, and supposed to be biased. Those are not 'news' shows, they are akin to editorials. They are not news, they are entertainment shows based on politics and news.

What I consider the real media is print such as repsected newspapers (and their websites) and television news channels like the major networks ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX as well as the cable news channels (minus the editorial shows).

I don't think there is some conspiracy where the media gets together and is intentionally biased towards one side or the other. With that said there has been studies that show that the major journalism colleges and Universities in the nation are overwhelmingly taught by liberal professors. It's really no secret. Therefore one can assertain that the graduates and even those who steer towards that profession may have liberal/democrat leanings even if only based on their education/professors.

And even as hard as a journalist would try to remain impartial, it seems the true colors shine through from time to time. Add in some confirmation bias's and I can see where it appears to be a media bias.

Yep, nice take... and you are differentiating opinion shows vs news shows to start..

Fixed.

But by all means, since you feel there is a liberal slant to the media, fill up on Rush and Fox News to "balance" that out.

or the Ed Show, Bill Mahar, Jon Stewart....

Hoping Michael Savage will be back soon.

How about the fact that The View is like The Five, with Hasselbeck playing Bob Beckels role...

Anyone who wants to find media bias is going to find it, just like they tend to use the media that most closely resembles their true beliefs. Very few are listening to all of it and deciding on their own.

I started my career as a reporter for a newspaper specifically to express my libturd bias. Once a week we'd all get together in a smoke-filled conference room and talk about ways we could spin every story to make Republicans look bad. Whenever somebody had a particularly good idea we'd all cackle maniacally.

Those were good times.

Why was "the media" an attractive field foy you to consider? After all, the pay isn't that great. Right?

I really believe people get into journalism because they have a point to make.....

Serious answer: Because writing was the only thing I was really good at. :dunno: I work in marketing now because the $$$ is much better but writing is still a big part of what I do for a living.

ETA: My first real (non freelance) job out of college was writing at a trade magazine for $22K/year. At that time at least, low to mid $20Ks was pretty typical for jobs at a newspaper or magazine.

It's not a very lucrative field.

The New York Times couldn't decide whether or not to run the Monica Lewinsky cvm stained blue dress story in an effort to protect Bill Clinton. ABC News couldn't decide either. A nobody named Matt Drudge ran the story for them and now has a highly trafficked news website that most journalist visit at least once a day. Had it been a republican president, they wouldn't have hesitated. That's called bias.

It is so obvious that denying it makes you look and sound like fawking retard.

And were all smarter for it aren't we. Thanks Matt Drudge - you really shined a light that we all couldn't have lived without. Thanks for exposing this travesty with your unbiased reporting. Did Drudge lead the Newt Gingrich is cheating on his wife while heading the Repub charge to impeach Clinton cause he spooged on the interns dress story?

Newt has cheated on several wives... and I'm sure plans to cheat on his current one soon if not already. That isn't news... :nono:

I was making examples of opinion shows... real news shows are like your local channel 7 news at 5pm...

Bias is bias. You know why Newsweek isn't in printed publication anymore? Media bias. And most Americans are seeing the media for what they are and have become; Apologist and enablers for the lefts lost causes and bullsh!t artists.

You know his point isn't whether or not Newt Gingrich is a filthy snake. It's that Drudge is not an unbiased reporter. He's a conservative hack with an agenda. He's not reporting on the wrong-doings of Republicans.

Was it newsworthy or not that a sitting President got head from an intern while in the White House?

But he denies the valid point that the The New York Times decided it should sit on a story involving a sitting democrat president and allow a nobody to be the first to tell it.

Yeah. In a gossip rag kind of way. I was intrigued by the story. Thought it was pretty funny. Not all that interesting from a political standpoint.
