MTSkiBum 1,594 Posted December 9, 2013 When he was elected, the Republicans started paying attention to it. After ignoring for eight years. Spoken for the truth. The republicans had the presidency and control of the entire congress for 4 years and the presidency and control of the house for 2 more years. All they did was add debt to our country with nothing to show for it. The republicans cant point fingers when it comes to debt, most every politician in washington is part of the problem. I'd love it if a president would address the national debt. And I mean REALLY address it, not just "project" their way out of a deficit during unsustainably good economic times. But sadly no modern president has done that. No Republican and no Democrat. Clinton came closest but even his famed surpluses were more the result of the 90s tech boom than anything else. The problem is no one votes for a politician who promises to pay taxes and cut benefits. We need congress to pass another sequester, that is about our only hope. IGotWorms 3,309 Posted December 9, 2013 . The problem is no one votes for a politician who promises to pay taxes and cut benefits. We need congress to pass another sequester, that is about our only hope. Sequestration was severely misguided because the cuts were totally arbitrary and made very little sense. Remember that the original goal of sequestration was to force Congress to act to AVOID the absurdity of the cuts. I guess the question is whether that is still desirable given that cuts are unlikely to occur any other way. I don't think it's desirable but it seems the public is on the other side.
