I didn't realize there was a new edjr board, though I rarely post here anymore.

 

No idea what "killed" it but it 100% was NOT latinpimp. Once the site came back online things got pretty close to the way they were before that fiasco. I'm sure a handful of people never returned, but honestly I can't think of anyone specific who hasn't been here since (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). That happened, what, six years ago? It was really like three-ish years ago that the first tumbleweeds started bouncing through town.

 

The constant BS politics slapfights were (are) a big drag on the forum, I think. It becomes tiresome after a while when the entire front page is littered with threads whining about the same stupid topics over and over again. The ignore feature is nice, but flawed; it hides individual posts, but not threads created by "ignored" individuals, so the temptation to click on an aidsy thread topic and further infect the thread with another strain of aids can be difficult to overcome for the trolliest of us. ETA: Not only that, but if enough people have enough other people on "ignore," that itself can be a forum killer. Forums require communication in order to survive, and when half the people have the other half on ignore, you effectively have two small subforums instead of one big free-for-all.

 

I agree wholeheartedly with this, but there has been a nice trend over the last couple of weeks. Those threads are getting fewer and fewer. Phurfur still tries desperately, but they get ignored and often get 0 replies. I've been trying to start interesting, non-political threads. So have a lot of other guys. It's a step in the right direction and I think it's been a much better place to be lately. Some of the ass holes are gone and others are being ignored. I started a thread yesterday talking about the changes I've seen. I have high hopes for this place.

Yeah I mean there's some validity to this. Most "off topic" boards are not very welcoming to newcomers, particularly when so many old school trolls reside there. This board is a good example of that.

 

Though to be fair, if you come in and prove yourself to be a quality poster, the hazing eventually tapers off. So if someone's still getting it months after they arrived, chances are it's a "them" problem, not a forum problem.

 

Everyone here just assumes that any "new" poster is just another dumb alias and reacts accordingly.

That was 90% your own fault. Perhaps if you'd have joined in on some of the non-political threads first, shown you had a little diversity and could be a human, you'd have been welcomed. I was responding to the post that was praising Newbie for his intelligent discourse in political threads. I was outraged by that concept since nobody knows what his political affiliations are to begin with since he never discusses the issues. He waits until he sees a conservative poster make a comment, then comes barreling in with a troll post to start a fight and purposely ruin the thread. This happens 100% of the time.

 

Now, Recliner Pilot has his mind set. Everybody knows where he stands. So be it. And he will argue the issue.

He feels victimized, but if some new MSNBC parrot came here and on his first day started jumping into political threads and getting cocky with the board conservatives, he'd get the same treatment that Worms and I gave him.
