Groundhog 24 Posted May 9, 2014 pretty good pickup. Stevie Johnson has speed for days, and the combo of Crabtree/SJ/Boldin is solid. a 4th rounder in 2015 is more or less equivalent to a 5th rounder in 2014. That's good value. not what I want to see, as a Seahawks fan.
IGotWorms 4,063 Posted May 9, 2014 I like Stevie Johnson. Gives God credit when he wins AND calls out the big fella when he loses. Gotta admire the consistency

phillybear 366 Posted May 9, 2014 Stevie Johnson is one of a handful of WR in the league that can give the Seattle secondary some fits. This is the first move the Niners have made this off season that has made me give them some begrudging credit. Damn you, Sharktopuss. They didn't give up much to get him either. Sort of like the Marshawn Lynch deal where Buffalo did something inexplicable. I had to check the cap numbers, and it's not too bad. Johnson has two more years to go, and less than 6 million per. Kopy 593 Posted May 10, 2014 I'll put in a Seahawk trifecta here, and grudgenly say nice trade. Between Boldin and now Johnson you guys really seem to know how to trade little for a good WR. Even if he does meet the requirements and it turns out to be a third rounder for Buffalo. It should be a bottom of the round pick anyways. Well worth it. His personality will fit right into that team and the nfc west as a whole too. Now as a fantasy fan. I was very huge in last years draft on Quinton Patten and have him on both of my dynasty teams. What's your take on his value? Does he now become more of a 2015 guy, or is he starting to be more of an after thought?
Voltaire 5,491 Posted May 10, 2014 I have Stevie in a league and had been pretty bummed as this move seemed to tank his value. You guys are making me more optimistic.
Reality 3,121 Posted May 10, 2014 San Fran, as has become the norm, is crushing the draft once again. Love these moves and picks.

If anything, Stevie could mean that the Niners will not be resigning Crabtree after this season. They also just added Bruce Ellington (speedster - slot - returns). So it looks like WR and RB will be a nice little cluster-fock through training camp.

This. He has a unique route running style that troubles the best man corners in the league. Great get by the 49ers and an idiotic trade for Buffalo. Yeah, you wouldn't want your young quarterback throwing to a Watkins/Johnson duo. After Aaron Donald going to the Rams (seriously?!? This beast wasn't a top 10 pick?!?!) this is my least favorite NFC West acquisition.

ralphster 274 Posted May 22, 2014 Tree/Boldin/Davis/Stevie/Patton/Baldwin/Ellington. Hard to imagine anyone putting up reliable ff numbers in that run first offense. Harbaugh holds grudges, so he's likely out after this year. 2015 sees new coaching scheme and Boldin retire and Stevie get cut, so maybe Patton catches some balls then. J-Money 4 Posted May 25, 2014 I don't see them keeping Lloyd unless there is an injury. I see them keeping Crabtree, boldin, Johnson, Ellington and Patton. No need to have any more since they will probably carry 2 or 3 te as well.

shorepatrol 1,871 Posted May 25, 2014 Great??? (tanatastic) Hmmm. Makes a nice #3 Wr on the 49ers. Who has a better #3 WR ? Fock ya GREAT. Crabtree , Boldin and Johnson as your starting WR's is unbelievable with V Davis at TE. Kap better not fock this up.

Voltaire 5,491 Posted May 28, 2014 Good luck with that shore patrol, in a run first offense. I haven't heard rumors to suggest otherwise but looking at the personnel, just because it's been that way for the last few years doesn't mean that 2014 has to follow the same pattern. Jim Harbaugh has some different tools in the toolbox this year.
phillybear 366 Posted May 28, 2014 Jim Harbaugh has some different tools in the toolbox this year. What a perfectly appropriate offense, for Jim Harbaugh.
Maroon Bells 18 Posted May 30, 2014 I think Patton could have been that guy. With Stevie I don't think he sees many snaps. Balls. I think Patton starts eating into Boldin's snap count. Either way, this offense will become more and more of a pass team over the next few seasons.
e-factor 13 Posted May 30, 2014 I think Patton starts eating into Boldin's snap count. Either way, this offense will become more and more of a pass team over the next few seasons. Agree with the offense opening up going forward. Not that they will become pass happy, but they are capable of scoring more points and winning games 31-10 instead of 17-10. There are games they should blow teams out early, but are so conservative that they let teams hang around and it has cost them in some big games. As far as Patton eating into Boldins snaps, I don't see that happening. Boldin is a great blocker and obviously still an excellent receiver, so I think Patton is going to be limited this year and won't see an increased role until next year if they don't resign Crabtree or 2016 when Boldin is gone. It's just that Boldin will be 34 this year. In my experience that's the age when the decline begins for WRs. And Patton is a helluva young talent. They gotta get him on the field somewhere and he's not going to eat into Crab's snaps, and he's not an X like Stevie Johnson. So I just think in order to keep Boldin fresh and effective late in the year, that's where his snaps are going to come from. I'm not saying he's draftable. Yes, there's no bigger misnomer in the NFL than "run-first" team. It's just a euphemism for "young QB." Sometime over the next season or two, Kaepernick's going to explode and bury that run-first mentality for a decade. Just like Matt Ryan did in Atlanta and Joe Flacco did in Baltimore.
