The publisher of a Bill O'Reilly book in which he falsely claims to have seen terrorists kill civilians with bombs in Northern Ireland are standing behind the Fox News host despite an admission by Fox News that he only saw photos of those events.

 

David Drake, senior vice president and deputy publisher at Crown Publishing Group, wrote in an email to Media Matters that "Crown will continue to publish our author's book just as he wrote it."

 

That book is Keep it Pithy: Useful Observations In A Tough World, O'Reilly's 2013 work published under Crown Archetype, a division of Random House.

In the book, O'Reilly writes, "I've seen soldiers gun down unarmed civilians in Latin America, Irish terrorists kill and maim their fellow citizens in Belfast with bombs."

 

But last Friday, The Washington Post's Paul Farhi reported that Fox News admitted that O'Reilly was not an eyewitness to terrorist bombings in Northern Ireland, writing: "Asked about O'Reilly's statements Friday, a Fox News spokesman said that O'Reilly was not an eyewitness to any bombings or injuries in Northern Ireland. Instead, he was shown photos of bombings by Protestant police officers."

(Reuters) - Television newsman Brian Williams, suspended by NBC in February for fabricating a story that he had come under fire on a helicopter during the Iraq war, will not return as anchor of the network's "Nightly News" program, CNN reported on Wednesday.

CNN, citing unnamed sources, reported that NBC and Williams had reached a tentative agreement to keep him at the network after his six-month suspension ends in August, but he would assume a different role.

Williams will not return as anchor of NBC's evening newscast under the arrangement, CNN reported. NBC, owned by Comcast Corp, could make an announcement about his future on Thursday, CNN reported.

Williams, who began anchoring "NBC Nightly News" in 2004, came under scrutiny in January after telling different versions of a story about being aboard a U.S. military helicopter hit by a rocket-propelled grenade during the first days of the Iraq war in 2003.

He was suspended without pay for six months after he voluntarily took himself off the air in February and NBC News launched an inquiry into his account of the event.

NBC representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I just can't imagine watching MSNBC until all those hacks are gone. It's comical. And hell I'm supposed to be their target market but they just make liberals look silly. Just like Fox News and conservatives but the problem is liberals tend to be more self-aware

I try to watch news hour on PBS but jeopardy keeps getting in the way. Gonna have to DVR jeopardy. I like Scott Pelly on CBS and hate ABC news, always did. 60 minutes has picked up their game. Read the rest of the time. And Bill Maher every Friday

I watch NBC Nightly News. Something about the shared experience of a national news telecast appeals to me, and I like Lester Holt.

Honestly, I lost interest in Fox when they aired "The Five" on a different west coast time slot a year or so ago and when Gutfeld stopped being the regular anchor for "Red Eye".

 

Damn, but he was funny.
