Citizen Kane

Girl had to watch this for a college class a couple years back.

What a terrible, terrible movie.

I walked out (of my own living room) it was so bad.

For people who have grown up on today's cinema, you will be disappointed, but the movie is far from bad. My best analogy, Wells was running a 4 minute mile when nobody had broken 5 minutes yet. Just way ahead of it's time.

I only watched it because I had heard about it.

I'd have rather watched a real marathon

One of my closest friend's favorite movies was Casablanca. He made me watch it once. Don't see the appeal.

That I agree with. Casablanca actually owes much of it's prestige to repeated showings on college campuses through the 60's to 80's, made it into something more that it is. It's not a bad film, but way over-rated IMO(I'm a pretty big cinephile).

If you haven't seen the godfather movies, go ahead and cut your cack off. Those are two of the top ten movies ever made.

I'll go with "it's a wonderful life. " never seen it, never will.

Casablanca has a lot of famous, quotable lines. Just some great dialogue in that movie, delivered perfectly

Copola released a set in the 80's called The Godfather The Complete Epic,it was shown in chronological order with edited footage added back in.Even showed Hyman Roth as a young man when he first met Vito Corleone.Well worth a watch if you can find it.

Any of the Fast and Furious series....

Not a car guy, and if I wanted to watch a meathead struggle through one syllable words for 2 hours I'll watch Rocky

Some epic action movies ranking up there with the best, especially the last 4. They strayed away from the tuned cars theme and just went with a classic action team caper theme. To each their own.

I like fast n furious a little but they are far from great ... I will say the last one was maybe the classiest send off to friend that passed I ever saw in a movie

The Piano Teacher

Brokeback Mountain

Little Miss Sunshine

Milk

Precious

The Color Purple

The English Patient

Moulin Rouge

Driving Ms Daisy

Fried Green Tomatoes (sorry, GoColts)

I agree with your whole list except for the Color Purple. That is a great movie and I think you would enjoy it. :bandana:

It's so highly acclaimed, the #1 movie of alll time. I was quite excited to watch it.

It was boring beyond words, it was a massive letdown of Scott Mitchell proportions.

Citizen Kane is incredibly important from a film history perspective and way ahead of it's time. It is also a fairly boring ass movie. I think people who call CK the greatest film of alltime are mistaking it's historical significance for greatness.

Citizen Kane is only boring if you're a member of the ADHD generation. Which pretty much everyone is at this point. Sad.

I used to think this too. You will not, however, get that way during the first 2 Godfather movies though. I can guarantee you that. They are wonderful, wonderful movies

I watched the first two Godfather movies. I hated them. I will never rewatch them. It was a chore to slog through that muck.

Just because the rest of the herd is following the same direction doesn't mean everybody will agree. I hated the Godfather movies. Would I feel differently if I saw them when they came out instead of 2012 when I first saw them? Meh. I might not have been as hard on them. I just don't find them watchable for me.

Avatar. It's the highest grossing movie ever. No interest. Why are they making like 4 sequels? By the time they hit theaters, nobody will care anymore.

Apocalypse Now. Maybe because I hated the Godfather movies and this was in the same boat.

I've never seen a Stars Wars movie. Any of them. I realize they are full of muppets and are basically children's movies with zero logic in script development, but some people love 'em. Meh.

Edit: Oddly enough, I own Spaceballs on DVD.

Sad. I also love spaceballs. Never met a single male who hasnt seen a star wars movie. Avatar was awesome. Just sad how some men have zero imagination or sense of wonder that they cant enjoy sci fi or fantasy without feeling like a nerd or something. As for hating Godfather? Well, in combo with never seeing any SW, man card heretofor revoked permanently.

I get saying you don't think the Godfathers are the greates movies ever, but to hate them? That I don't get. But I too think Spaceballs was genius.

I watched it and paid attention the entire way through and could not tell you a damn thing about it besides the dumb wagon at the end. Seriously no idea what its about still.

I felt this way, too, then I finally saw it about 10 years ago, and I actually thought it was pretty good. Which surprised me, because I basically hate old movies; I think the dialogue is terrible and the acting is wooden. If Keanu Reeves traveled back to 1947, he'd win a focking Oscar.

Some man cards revoked from this thread gentlemen. Its a good thing none of you have said you dont like Shawshank Redemption or never saw it. that would be grounds for not only instant man card removal, but also doorbell ring and face punch in front of wife and kids. Youv all been warned, and your on thin ice already, dont push it.

I absolutely enjoy sci fi and fantasy genre movies. Just because I have never watched Star Wars nor any Harry Potter movies me just makes my takes a tad bit more mature, but not so much that I can't enjoy a comic book movie or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

My man card is stapled to my diyuck. Come and get it.

I would think Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Animal House, and Caddyshack are all infallible. :dunno:

I fell asleep after 15 minutes of Avatar. I'm just not into all the special effects and CGI. Technology is great, but I like movies that tell an interesting story.

It may have had a good plot, but I'll never know.

That's probably true in some cases but I like a lot of older movies and I think I'm a patient viewer. I could make drop some slower, less dynamic movies I've liked a lot. But I still think CK is boring even though I respect the formal innovations.

Kane was made in the 40's, and while it's a decent story, it's just not that great to watch today. I think The Grapes of Wrath holds up better from that era.

Fast forward 10-20 years and you'll find lots of good old movies from the 50's and 60s.

The Hustler

To Kill a Mockingbird

A Streetcar Named Desire

From Here to Eternity

to name a few

Recently saw To Kill a Mockingbird and didn't come away thinking it held up very well. The themes/story is relevant, but other than Peck, the acting is 'meh'...I could go on, but that would require another viewing of the movie and I'm not doing that. There are other films from that era I'd watch again(and have), but Mocking Bird isn't one of them.
