Name a famous movie that you've never seen and really have no desire to see

Recommended Posts

May as well mention it's hard to like any movie more than about 40 years old. Well, the Marx brothers were cool. The Three Stooges are movie shorts. But the rest seems alien.

I absolutely enjoy sci fi and fantasy genre movies. Just because I have never watched Star Wars nor any Harry Potter movies me just makes my takes a tad bit more mature, but not so much that I can't enjoy a comic book movie or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

My man card is stapled to my diyuck. Come and get it.

Your delusional. The SW movies were made in early 80s so dont play the mature card. Sci fi but no SW? Its like saying you love shark movies but hate Jaws. Harry potter isnt in the convo, you can take that or leave it, but SW is universally male beloved. Your simply too insecure to try things you think would make you appear a certain way (nerdy, imaginative), even tho SW is about as mainstream as it gets. Have no idea how they escaped you in the 80s and 90s. Empire strikes back is regarded as one of the best movies ever made. Your card is so far revoked its caitlyn jenner status.

I completely agree with this.

Excellent/Good mob movies: Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco, Miller's Crossing, The Untouchables, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, A Bronx Tale, The Departed, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, True Romance, Suicide Kings, Scarface, Payback, and many others

Sucky mob movies: Godfather, Godfather 2, Analyze This, The Whole Nine Yards,

Godfather doesn't even belong in the same paragraph as The Whole Nine Yards and Analyze This.

On a side note, I can't believe you left out this one. I saw this on cable late one night when a friend when we were loaded and we laughed til we puked.

Sad. I also love spaceballs. Never met a single male who hasnt seen a star wars movie. Avatar was awesome. Just sad how some men have zero imagination or sense of wonder that they cant enjoy sci fi or fantasy without feeling like a nerd or something. As for hating Godfather? Well, in combo with never seeing any SW, man card heretofor revoked permanently.

Those are def some of my fav movies, especially Departed and Bronx tale. Again, its like saying you love pizza but you hate cheese and peperoni and dont care for sauce...Godfather is, well, the godfather of all those movies, even tho I like some of them more.

I saw Star Wars in the theater when it first came out. Haven't seen any of the sequels/prequels/whatevers since, and have no desire to, either.

Recently saw To Kill a Mockingbird and didn't come away thinking it held up very well. The themes/story is relevant, but other than Peck, the acting is 'meh'...I could go on, but that would require another viewing of the movie and I'm not doing that. There are other films from that era I'd watch again(and have), but Mocking Bird isn't one of them.

Interesting. I think I'm drawn in by nostalgia on Mockingbird. The setting sorta reminds me of my early childhood in OK.

Bare feet, overalls, roaming the neighborhood, crackers throwing out the "N" word without thinking twice.

I didn't watch many movies in the 70's or early to mid 80's. The onus has been to play catchup on the movies that I missed from those eras. I have never had any interest in watching a Star Wars movie. I still don't want to watch a Star Wars movie. I mean, Ewoks? Really? I understand the pop culture references, but I just don't think George Lucas has any talent. Not that I don't mind watching a space movie. I'd like to find time to go back a catch a movie from the Alien franchise, but when we are in the midst of such a brilliant time for television shows, it's hard to get motivated to watch any movies right now.

I best remember feeling like I was in the x wing with Luke when he flew down into the deathstar to destroy it.

Don't you spend 40 hours a week on a bus, put it on a tablet.

Also, how do you know Lucas doesn't have talent(, he's directed two other features(outside of SW) THX 1138 and American Graffiti.

You're not missing anything. The original trilogy doesn't hold up so well anyway.

Aliens is the most entertaining.

Fair enough. I can understand not being into movies as a youth and then having to play catchup, I get that. also your right, Lucas is a dreadful writer and even worse director. Empire strikes back was the one not directed by him and its the crown jewel of the franchise. His strenth is storytelling and imagination. Alien franchise, just watch the first 2, u can skip the rest.

FIrst, you have to assume that you are standing most of the time on the trains and bus. Next, I download easily at least 60+ hours of content from dailycomedy radio shows and podcasts, so right there is a bunch of content I go through on my travels and at work. Besides, I don't really want to watch something on such a small screen.

Meh. Nobody I know ever brags about Star Wars, so I can't put much stock into Lucas. Besides, didn't he just sell off his entire SW universe to Disney, then he offered his ideas to the company, and Disney told him to beat it. Sounds like they don't care for him.

I like the third one. The studio screwed it up some, but it Fincher directed it and there's a lot of coolness to it. It's not as good as the first two, but for SciFi fans I'd say it's worth watching.

I don't watch star war movies and I'm about as manly as it gets. Card reinstated, as per me

You can keep your card. SW is def not a man card requirement. Its the combination of not liking SW as well as godfather. Since those 2 dont overlap. Usually the too cool for school type manly men will poo poo things like sci fi but then love things like mob movies. But to not like either is a sin against huMANity.

Hmmm. I may have to reconsider my earlier position, but I wish it wasn't Star Wars buttressing your point. I'll have a ruling at some point.

Yea its all good. SW is mainstream but really more of a nerd card requirement than a man card one for sure. If you told me you were a nerd that hadnt seen it, thats instant revoke without reinstatement.

I'm in total agreement with Philly on the Godfather movies. Absolutely hated them. And this is coming from a chick who likes mob movies.

I fell asleep after 15 minutes of Avatar. I'm just not into all the special effects and CGI. Technology is great, but I like movies that tell an interesting story.

It may have had a good plot, but I'll never know.

+1

That's pretty much why I haven't watched any of the Spiderman, X-Men, Avengers, etc. etc. it's also what ruined all the new Star Wars. Techology and special affects are great, but there still needs to be an element of artistry. Set design and cinematography are just as important as CGI laser beams.

ETA: What's up with 3d!? Go away already.

Rocky 1

First Blood(first rambo movie)

Alien 1 & 2 for sure

Predator.

All are man-card required viewing, Fast & Furious are popcorn car porn. Rocky won Best Picture in '77, really good movie.

Keels over from heart attack.

Rocky- Not a single one?! Didn't think it was possible for a man to miss all of them. Triumph, competition, fighting, memorable characters, there's just so many good themes in these movies I just can't fathom who could avoid them all their life. Gotta be a real tree hugging effeminate kinda lifestyle to grow up and not even have one of these come on tv in the background for an avg male. I accidentally watched these prob more than 20 times each just from flipping channels. MANDATORY to see at least 2 of them.

Rambo- Sure I like but they are not a requirement. I can understand gees getting by someone.

Predator- First one, MANDATORY, the rest nah I'd understand. No biggie.

Fast furious- I love them but they aren't required. No probs here.

Status- Revoked with possibility of reform. Report back back with the required viewing and you can apply for reinstatement.

first Rocky movie is a great movie, great characters, story. From a thematic stand point get progressively worse til the last one Balboa, just one cliche after another. Rocky IV is just mostly MTV music videos with some of the worst 80's music ever. The ending with what I'm sure Stallone thought was a real deep and meaningful commentary on the cold war, but is some of the corniest dialogue ever. Watch the first, skip the rest.
