The Cowboys still have the same strat ... run a capable RB behimd the best OL in the game with a suspect defense. They have not won a lot of championships tho, post Smith. Yer gonna win a lot of games in dramatic fashion that way, but only when you get lucky. High variance play.

 

Barry Sanders, when he was still alive, did not win a lot of games. The team around him sucked, for years. Defenses stacked up against him, with no fear of the Detroit passing game ... and he still broke ankles.

Barry was great for sure and I enjoyed watching him play. But if I had to choose I would take a healthy Bo Jackson over him, but hey thats just me. Not sure who else would agree with me.

I don't think Abdullah is that good, but I do want him on my fantasy team as an RB3. I probably won't get him though.

Sanders, Brown, Peyton, and Bo are all world beaters and they are all different types of players. Bo playing a lot like Brown, but still.

You know who else was considered "too small to carry the load"? About five running backs every year. More often than not, they are in fact too small to carry the load. For every Barry Sanders and Tiki Barber, there are 50 David Wilsons

My vote is for Barry as all time greatest RBs. He was on a terrible team and still got it done. It was rumored that's one of the reasons he retired early, he wanted to be traded to a better team, but the Lions had the franchise tag on him and would never let him go. Another reason was that he did not want to break Payton's all time rushing record while Payton was dying, out of respect. I have no idea if either of those are true.

You're right, it was Brown not wanting Franco to GET the record in which I'm thinking. Something about him always running out of bounds to avoid contact.
