Chronic Husker

You're GM. How do you handle your team's offseason?

Recommended Posts

Broncos

Ware, Clady, and Manning come off the books (unless Peyton comes in and wins us a Super Bowl).

Need to resign Osweiler, Von Miller, Derrick Wolfe, and Malik Jackson.

I just take the money saved and resign the guys we have. If it takes a franchise tag year, I'd pay it for any of them. Most likely Von, of course.

Outside of that, I'm sure Kubiak has a zone blocker or two in mind and we need to introduce a RB or two.

There is no glaring need. Offensive line is the obvious call but the Broncos lost three LT to injury.

I hate to go rb in the 1st rd but if I'm Elway I wrap up my guys in fa and get Ezekiel with my first pick.

:dunno:

The Eagles need offensive line help. We saw how bad oline play could derail great qbs, even ones that are good at avoiding the pressure.

Bears: Prepare to lose Gase to HC gig. Fix oline first, dline 2nd. Sign Jeffery to a team friendly extension or not at all - do not franchise tag him. Bring back Zach Miller and Forte for smart contracts. Do not bring back Eddie Royal or McClellan. Draft oline and dline first, then maybe a young qb.

Seahawks

On D. Bruce Irvin and Brandon Mebane look to be gone, this will save about 10 mil combined.

On O. Russell Okung is a free agent. This saves us about 7 mil.

I say let all 3 retire or walk. Pocket that 17 mil, and draft, draft, draft. Stay away from Free Agency.

All other big names are signed, so save the money, and draft.

Lynch would be the only question mark for them. Does he play, does he retire? They had to twist his arm to play this year.

He is signed for 1 more year at 12 mil. Thats big time savings either this year if he walks, or next year when his deal is done. With Rawls looking like the future, and a cheap 1 at that. There shouldn't be any big rush to beg him to stay. Only question is if he goes, you have to bring in a backup for Rawls, either draft or fa.

Just some quick hits for the Browns

Hire Jon Gruden (he loves Manziel)

Draft Dotson out of TCU so you can have a #1 wideout to go with a #1 tight end.

Sign Matt Forte to help your running game and another weapon in the passing game.

In all seriousness, the Eagles have holes everywhere.

First and foremost they HAVE to get guard upgrades. The interior of that line is garbage.

They need a quarterback. I don't necessarily know if Bradford re-ups with this team...and if not, they might have to get aggressive in the draft to try and get a guy like Goff.

Cornerback depth is needed.

Running back depth might be needed.

They need a wide receiver to take the top off a defense. Travis Benjamin is going to be a free agent. Might be worth a look for a speedster.

Oh...and above all else...

They need a GM not named Howie Roseman.

A coach would be nice too before Week One

Raiders-

Second guessed RM on a couple FA moves and raised eyebrows on a few draft picks last year...

I'm good with whatever he's got going in 2016. Playoffs or bust.

cowboys:

dump hardy and mcclain. tell carr he'll take a massive pay cut or be cut. let claiborne walk if he can get more than $3M/year elsewhere. cut bernadeaux, and move leary into the swing IOL backup role.

bring ware back at reduced price after husker cuts him.

trade 1st round picks from the 2055-2060 seasons so that i can draft a CB, RB, QB, MLB, SS, and 3-tech in the first round. then edge rusher, 1-tech, and WR in the second. no trading for that--actually steal some other team's picks. like kidnap their guy at the draft ceremony, or forge their draft card. maybe play poker, but rig the game.

than a lot of practice. keep everyone in giant hamster balls in order to avoid injury. let them pay other people to lift the weights for them--god knows they can afford it. maybe just play madden, except with protective glasses to prevent fractured eyeballs and pulled retinas.

in fact, cryo-freeze them all. somewhere without aliens. of if you could teach alien to play, it would be good in the secondary with the whip-tail thing. so feed JJ wilcox to the alien to keep it motivated, as well as improving wilcox's ability not to screw up.

Packers...

There is a lot...

Hire a real Offensive Coordinator... I don't necessarily believe McCarthy should be canned, but they need something fresh.

Hire an established dedicated wr coach.

Make sure Jordy gets healthy.

Fix Adams hands or show him the door.

FA for depth...on the OL and LB. Draft draft draft.

Lacy-Jenny Craig

D Adams-The Door. Cant play

Pass Rusher. Peppers is done.

QB is obviously the top need but this is a week quarterback class and where they're picking they're not drafting an elite prospect at the position.

Right now I'd say OL and CB are the top needs by far. I'd say draft the best OT to play inside initially / move to the outside when Peters is done. That or cornerback. We have a bunch of decent 2/3 types but no real playmakers at the position.

Sign Bradford to a deal that allows you to cut him after a few seasons with minimal hit and draft a project QB to groom as a 3rd behind him.

At WR I would simply sign a decent vet and hope Agholar makes strides next year.

Hue Jackson would be my pick as coach. Move the team to a smash mouth run style and revert the D to 4-3. The defense has enough pieces in the front 7 to be decent if you fix the secondary. The O is a dumpster fire.

You want to diamantle the defense?...

the defense has never been mantled. carr's cap charge next season is $14M, for a guy who hasn't had a pick in 2 seasons. claiborne is UFA, and despite playing better this season, he still missed 5 games due to injury. mcclain is a diva with a bad work ethic, which threatens the culture that JG has tried so hard to instill. and even aside from the off-field stuff, hardy has not been the disruptive force that JJ paid for. with trent williams out of the game today, hardy produced...one QB hurry. lawrence has been more productive in the back half of the season, despite rushing from the strongside.

dumping carr and not re-signing hardy is an immediate $20M in cap savings, for two guys who haven't produced even remotely what they were expected to. mcclain is a gamer, but an inconsistent one who is difficult to motivate. i'd definitely keep claiborne (who i like), but only at the right price.

meanwhile, DAL will be picking 3rd. of the franchise positions (QB, LT, ER, CB), they need help at 3 of them. i'd be all for looking at QB at this position in the draft, but i suspect CLE will go that route, and you don't want to spend pick 3 on the 2nd best guy in a mediocre field at the position. that leaves CB and pass rusher if they remain at that spot.

but the premium pick gives them a LOT of trade capital. moving down introduces more options, like RB, 3-tech, and MLB. depending on which chart you're using, trading back from 1.03 to 1.10 can net anything from 3.27 up to 1.18. after last season's 3 x 1st round talents, grabbing 2 x 1st round picks would be a windfall, and would still yield an elite prospect.

so yeah, i'd be happy hitching my defensive wagon to young talent (like crawford, irving, lawrence, gregory, hitchens, and jones), along with homegrown vets (lee, scandrick, church) plus high draft picks. better that than to continue to dump money into toxic or unproductive guys with bigger names.

Bills.

Spoiling the Jets playoff hopes bought Rex one more year. 8-8 wasn't what this team was looking for as they supposedly had a top 5 defense.

That said looking at their schedulre, 3 more wins and they would have been in. 2 more wins and they would have still had a chance to be in. 2 games they lost this year were by 3 points, unfortunately the rest of their losses they got blown up by 7 or more. They also let opponents score 30+ points 8 times this year, not acceptable for a team to make the playoffs. Defense has to play better. Rex's scheme clearly isn't working and should be changed back to what the bills were doing in 2014. Mario is also unhappy and might force a trade?

Offense, I generally like the play we're getting from Taylor. Williams looks like a workable RB, with McCoy getting some carries between the 20s. They need to shore up the o-line big time, that should be the #1 priority in the draft. I also think they need more WR depth, and of course another succession plan for QB as Manuel clearly isn't the guy moving forward, might as well move on from him.
