David Ortiz Played His Last Game of Baseball Tonight

Recommended Posts

So what was the official story - did Ortiz juice for real or not? :dunno:

of course he did.

but he is loved by the media, so they won't mention it and he will make it into the HOF

most clutch hitter that ever lived as far as I am concerned. Us Red Sox fans owe him everything. Was a pleasure watching him play for 14 years. GOAT DH

Thank you Minnesota

Thank you David Ortiz

He could be just the player that finally knocks down the door for Bonds, Manny, Palmeiro and the rest. Bcoz of Papi gets in, and juiced - how do they keep those other guys out?

How do they now?

Frank Thomas, Craig Biggio and Mike Piazza, all have been voted in the last few years.

How on earth can anyone say unequivocally they never juiced?

Good point.. Pudge is coming up too - no way in hell he didn't juice. But he'll get in.

stop it.

all you need to know is he's from the focking dominican and worked out with Angel Presinal.

a failed drug test would help.

Besides, what PED gives you clutch hitting ?

He "failed" a test in 2003, the year before the new testing rules went into effect.

Essentially, the 2003 survey testing was more of an informal gauge to track PED usage before 2004, when a more comprehensive drug testing program was implemented. And, according to Manfred, a positive result didn’t necessarily mean that player was using a banned substance. “Even if Rob Manfred’s name was on that list,” Manfred said, “he might have been one of those 10 or 15 where there was probably or at least possibly a very legitimate explanation that did not involve the use of a banned substance. … “Back then, it was hard to distinguish between certain substances that were legal — available over the counter and not banned under our program — and certain banned substances.

Then why has he never failed a test for a banned substance? I'm all for busting juicers, but you can't speculate. He either failed the tests the MLB put in place or he didn't. And ortiz didn't. Plain and simple.

Not very reliable.

How about a 1.021 OPS at the age of 40?

How many players have done that other than Papi and Bonds?

Bonds didn't fail a test either.

If Bonds passed all the tests MLB put in place, then so be it. They have to prove they cheated. Arod is a proven cheat, Ortiz is not.

edjr - I would not be surprised to hear that Ortiz (or anyone) was using PED's... it's just the reality of sports today.

But the Twins example is flawed evidence - MIN was trying to force Ortiz to play "small ball", hit opposite field, move runners along, etc... they were simply asking him to hit/play in a way that didn't suit him.

Dominican Players (i.e. Pedro) knew what a force Ortiz could be and they knew he had tons of potential in the right environment - it's why Pedro lobbied Sox ownership so hard to sign Ortiz.

yet when he got here he didn't have a position and was platooned
