BunnysBastatrds 2,606 Posted November 14, 2016 Really bad. Went to a shooting range this morning to learn how to shoot handguns. I was so nervous that I couldn't hold a pistol without shaking. Had to put it down and walk away. Walked in circles in the parking lot till my friends came out. They were high as kites. They shoot some serious fire power. Desert Eagles. AR15. 22 target pistols. I couldn't do it. Couldn't stop my shaking hands. Sad!

wiffleball 4,797 Posted November 14, 2016 No, it's not nerves. If you Still believe that, there's no point in talking. I have been to the point where I needed a drink just put in my contact. Don't go cold turkey, just drill s*** down significantly As quickly as possible. Your increased drinking has become obvious To of us on the board. And we don't judge, it's just a fact. If you're at that point, you just really need to dial it back.

It might be more emotional than a substance abuse problem, but he Definetly is in need of clinical assistance. Let's hope he reaches out for the help he needs. kutulu 1,707 Posted November 15, 2016 Life's kinda getting out of control, I think. I don't know if you agree with me..would you hand me that ashtray? What it is... I know you've heard the word a thousand times, It's a rat race. I went through the contortions of hell, I have alcoholic seizures. Wind up in the hospital and everthing else. Now I'm sick and I'm shaking like a leaf. It was like silly puddy and they threw him in the car, the paddy wagon and beat him to death. I hit one of those and I knocked the front wheel off into outer space and I kinda got angry myself and I said, Have alot of guns. I like salad, I just had a nice salad. Baked potato, some cream cheese and chives.
titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted November 15, 2016 Bunny, I hope I don't come of as a preachy fock here. God knows I have my vices too. I only say this because you're one of the good ones around here. It's time to let the drinking go. If you're so bad off you have the shakes, you can't just "cut back." It's all or nothing. It's a crossroads moment my friend. On the left is your daughters wedding, grandkids, All of that. On the right is a descent to an early and ignoble grave. Choose. It's really that simple at this point. I get your philosophy of eat drink and be merry. I do. But haven't you gotten the fun out of booze at this point? Maybe time to trade a touch of quality for quantity. And you know, not being a hollowed out wreck in a few years. Anyway, feel free to ignore me or tell me to fock off. Just telling you what you already know deep down.
wiffleball 4,797 Posted November 15, 2016 From experience, I think Titans is wrong. Besides, going cold turkey can have some serious health effects - including seizures. My brother went through that shiit. As for me, like I said, I had the shakes and puked blood (not at the same time), pretty obvious time to scale back. So, I did. I've gone days and weeks 'dry' and it's not a problem. But then, I can have beers during the game or whatever, and I'm a much cheaper drunk. You have to do what works for you, but switching to a beer only regime is a decent start. That shiit is basically self-regulating.

Addicts generally suck at self regulating their usage. That's why they're addicts. Take me for example. I can't comprehend these people who "only smoke when they drink" and still have half a pack of cigs in their coat pocket four days later. Just doesn't compute. I'm not saying go cold turkey all at once. Maybe a tapering down is needed. But just a "dry out for a couple weeks and back to business" approach ain't gonna change much long term. Voltaire 5,491 Posted November 15, 2016 Isn't it possible that this has nothing to do with your drinking? An alternative explanation could be that the symptoms appeared because a couple of days ago, you allowed yourself to get tasered with 50,000 volts. For those that don't know what I'm talking about : http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=460640 I don't hardly ever drink but I'm thinking if I got hit with a taser, my hands may still be shaking like this for a few days afterwards as well.

BunnysBastatrds 2,606 Posted November 16, 2016 Pen, what's the best way to ween myself off of this? Read a Report that compared heroin addicts are just as hooked as alcoholism addicts are. Any truth to that? The chemical make up is close?
penultimatestraw 473 Posted November 16, 2016 Pen, what's the best way to ween myself off of this? Read a Report that compared heroin addicts are just as hooked as alcoholism addicts are. Any truth to that? The chemical make up is close? I don't think so. Alcohol is addictive, but nearly as much as heroin, meth, crack or nicotine. But that doesn't mean it is easy to quit any addiction. I'd consider an official detox program. There are a lot of strategies out there: How effective are these different approaches? In their Handbook of Alcoholism Treatment Approaches: Effective Alternatives, R. K. Hester & W.R. Miller summarize the various methodologies and their effectiveness, including different alcohol rehab success rates. The top six for efficacy were: brief interventions from a trusted health professional, motivational enhancement through counselling, use of the drug Acamprosate, the community reinforcement approach (co-opting the patient’s social networks), the use of self-change manuals, and the use of the drug Naltrexone. The 12-Step approach came in 37th on this list.

shotsup 835 Posted November 17, 2016 I have no shame. I'll share. 2 (or 2 1/2) bottles of 1.75 Vodka per week and 6-8 beers per night which is a cut down from the minimum 12 beers. That's at home. I go out 1-2 nights per week. Sometimes a third I can tell you right now tonight I bought a bottle of vodka and I got $10.00 off. With their loyalty card I reached $500.00 for the third time this year - and it isn't the only liquor store I frequent. Discusting I know.

BunnysBastatrds 2,606 Posted November 17, 2016 I'm sad. I guess it's the second ending of the Toxic Twins. Wonder twins activate! In all seriousness, the weekends are getting to me. I'm getting to old to have this rock star way of life. Can't keep it up. My level of input is insane. On Sunday I drank 16 Kewrs Lites, 5 lemon drop vodka shots. And a shot of liqueur. 24 ounces in a 12 hour time period. And was walking and talking like I had a college buzz doing a keg stand after all of that. I can literally drink a a case of beer or a fifth of vodka and be ok. Not bragging. But Mardi Gras weekend, I would hit the century mark for drinking beer in 72 hours. And drink shots. And wake up like I drank a sixer. I am the epitome of blah!
