easilyscan 1,175 Posted February 5 Will taxpayers bail out bitcoin if it continues to drop……..why not! Start those printing presses & never turn them off again. What could possibly go wrong ? Quote The decline on Wednesday was also fueled by the broader selling pressure in markets and a warning from notable investor Michael Burry that a sustained decline in bitcoin's price could "set in motion a death spiral leading to massive value destruction." Who gives a fock ? Sure as hell not me. If individuals, banks, or financial institutions like Vanguard put more into bitcoin then they could afford to lose, it's not taxpayers job to bail them out. Good job Mr. Bessent https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bitcoin-sinks-after-treasury-secretary-bessent-says-us-government-cant-tell-banks-to-bail-out-crypto-195504406.html
nobody 3,023 Posted February 5 I doubt it will come to that, but I don't think you see a bailout unless bitcoin causes a contagion that spreads to the broader financial system, so that means banks would have to be levered to bitcoin in some substantial way. If they are and it goes sideways, I guess we'll need to regulate banks to death again. TSLA has a bunch of bitcoin, though I think.

I don't think it will come to that either, but in case it ever did, no one should be bailed out. Quote I guess we'll need to regulate banks to death again. Does it really matter? Look at silicon valley bank. CEO Greg Becker faced intense scrutiny from Congress & the public for selling company stock shortly before the collapse & for taking a bonus just hours before the bank was shut down. He never did any jail time, & in spite of the FDIC trying to claw back some of the money from those executives responsible for the meltdown, I don't believe he's paid anything back. That'll teach him!

supermike80 2,237 Posted February 5 To you crypto folks. I have a little $$ laying around, is it a good time to invest in it? Should I wait? What do you guys think?
nobody 3,023 Posted February 5 If it drops to 50k, might trigger a death spiral where margin calls cause selling of assets to cover the margin call, which in turn lowers asset price which in turn triggers more margin calls. It would spread to the stock market as well

I didn't even understand why it's taking a bath right now Not enough people feeling fomo? it’s never replacing fiat currency which was one of their big talking points years ago. It’s 100x more regulated than the bulls claimed it would ever be… no one cares how much their bitcoin is worth… in bitcoin, they care how much it’s worth in USD which was always telling A lot of the huge run ups we’ve seen were highly driven by fomo investing.
