GutterBoy 2,899 Posted May 31, 2017 Anyone here into Craft beer? What's your style? Local places you visit? I'm in NJ and there are loads of local breweries popping up all over the place making some excellent beers. I've gotten my hands on some Trillium, Treehouse, Alchemist, Tired Hands and Veil over the past few months. Love them hazy IPAs.

MDC 7,407 Posted May 31, 2017 Philly is a really good craft beer town with several breweries in and around the city. Yards is my favorite and their Philly Pale Ale is the best. We're not too far from Victory brew pub in Downingtown either. My specific neighborhood (Fishtown / East Kensington) is like craft beer gastropub Mecca - so many great places to eat and drink. You should check it out.
NorthernVike 2,086 Posted May 31, 2017 Altho I do enjoy many of them, there are just too many now a days and trying to sort through the shitty ones has became too much of a pain in the ass. I've moved on to whiskeys.
wiffleball 4,790 Posted May 31, 2017 Colorado has led the charge on this stuff for decades. I was at a place a while ago that had a strawberry IPA. Geesus, fock this place. I mean honestly, hipster harry, he's how it goes: 1) Everybody was making their own type of beer - each bar was known for their own. 2) The more popular stuff beat the less popular stuff. 3) So, instead of closing down the bars that sold the less popular stuff, they provided beer to them. 4) Beer was demanded so much, they centralized and mass produced. 5) Fast Forward 6) Now, every 800 sq ft hog dog joint has 112 taps 7) And, more beer goes stale and gets thrown out than gets sold. 8) That, my friends is why you don't have 287 different craft brewers per state. 9) Which is why beer manufacturing consolidated in the first place. 10) If you're THAT much into it, do it at home. Fun hobby.

RaiderHaters Revenge 4,348 Posted May 31, 2017 I just can't stand the after taste of IPA. Gimme a solid honey blonde or an amber lager and I'm content all day. Also started trying some sour beers. Had one that tasted like sour patch kids the other day. Good in about 5 oz increments

TimmySmith 2,782 Posted May 31, 2017 DC/MD has some killer breweries, which can all serve beer on premises. Some have nice tasting (drinking) rooms. All are BYOFood, but there are generally food trucks during the peak times. Some: http://3starsbrewing.com/ Good beer, little tasting room. http://jailbreakbrewing.com/ Killer tasting room. As good as any bar you will find. Bring your own food. http://brookevillebeerfarm.com/ Farm setting. As nice as any bar/restaurant you will find anywhere. Serves food, or bring your own. Bring kids, dogs, chairs and hang out. https://www.waredacabrewing.com/ 2 miles from Brookeville. Another farm setting. Great place to drink some really good beer. GutterBoy 2,899 Posted May 31, 2017 I do every Friday and Saturday night. so curious, instead of drinking 6 coronas, why not drink 3 higher ABV beers that taste better, or do you just prefer the taste of corona?

MDC 7,407 Posted May 31, 2017 so curious, instead of drinking 6 coronas, why not drink 3 higher ABV beers that taste better, or do you just prefer the taste of corona? The main reason is that it's easier to space out 5-6 beers over a weekend night than 3. But I also get less hungover. If I were drinking whatever I want I'd probably go with Franziskanner or another Hefeweizen but they give me hangivers and I know they're like 250 calories per. wiffleball 4,790 Posted May 31, 2017 This. Fastest growing market in beer sales is craft beer. The tweener brewers like Sam Adams getting hit the hardest. Rednecks still drinking their busch camo cans Fastest growing is the most misleading statistic there ever was. You're selling two bottles? Now you're selling four? Hey our sales doubled! I don't have a dog in this fight, I'm just going by empirical evidence. There are way too many taps in bars these days that almost never get touched.
parrot 789 Posted May 31, 2017 I just can't stand the after taste of IPA. Gimme a solid honey blonde or an amber lager and I'm content all day. Same. I'm a hefeweizen fan. I couldn't find a decent hef around here for years, but there's always 73 different IPAs to choose from. A brewery near me finally started out putting out a decent hef just in the last year or so. Was at an unfamiliar bar this weekend. Asked if they had a hefeweizen on tap and the girl said "No, but I have a grapefruit shandy!" "Uh... ok..."

I don't have a dog in this fight, I'm just going by empirical evidence. There are way too many taps in bars these days that almost never get touched. What is the evidence that craft beer is not being consumed, but rather is poured down the drain? If you want good beer, it's hard to get, and you will end up driving miles and miles, waiting hours and hours to get it.
GutterBoy 2,899 Posted May 31, 2017 hoppy beers are definitely an acquired taste. Some IPAs are terrible, some are the most delicious thing I've ever tasted.

The heavy stuff, though I love it, just makes for insta-bloat and I'm miserable after two. I actually just loaded up the crisper with Carona the other day. I like that or Oberon. Drizzay 719 Posted May 31, 2017 Lots in the Twin Cities: Fulton Brewery (Mpls) - Love their Lonely Blonde (Blonde Ale) and Sweet Child Of Vine (IPA) Steel Toe Brewery (St Louis Park) - Size 7 (IPA) and Rainmaker (India Red Ale) Surly Brewery - leads the charge of Mpls craft brews. Furious (IPA - their most well-known), Todd The Axe Man (West Coast IPA), Hell (German Style Lager) are all great. Their newer brewery and restaurant is a fantastic place. Lots of others - Bent Paddle (Duluth), Lift Bridge (Stillwater), Summit Brewery (St Paul).
TheNewGirl 1,489 Posted May 31, 2017 I like craft breweries, but honestly I have yet to visit any of our local ones. They are mostly in the foothills around here. We also have places popping up that are like "beer halls" where they ahve like 90 beers on tap. These places overwhelm me because I don't know where to start. I usually go with the local IPA's or if there are any Belgians on tap I will try those. Not much of a beer person, really.
