I've tried it but really don't remember it much. It's 150 calories per vs just 99 for Corona Light though. I probably have 25-30 alcoholic beverages per week so that can add up.

Booze. High calorie, high return.

 

I have many friends caught up in the 5-10+ Miller Lites 4 times a week, while I drink 3 IPAs and a couple of Bourbons.

I just can't stand the after taste of IPA. Gimme a solid honey blonde or an amber lager and I'm content all day. Also started trying some sour beers. Had one that tasted like sour patch kids the other day. Good in about 5 oz increments

 

Generally I'm this way. But there are some IPA's that have managed to tame the aftertaste while still giving you the good, slightly bitter taste of an IPA. If you ever get the chance try Oskar Blues IPA.

 

Regarding craft brews, it's about all I drink nowadays About the closest I get to mainstream beer is Sam Adams. Got a keg of their Summer Ale in the kegerator right now.

drank a lot of sierra nevada and red hook in the early 90's. i used to really enjoy craft beer until the ipa boom. we had several micros around and it was fun to try everything. it now seems like there is little variation. i then got very into german and belgian bier and primarily drink those. in the summer i will have some lighter beers around as well (pacifico, kona lager).

 

America generally does not do Hefeweizen well

I'm in NJ and there are loads of local breweries popping up all over the place making some excellent beers. I've gotten my hands on some Trillium, Treehouse, Alchemist, Tired Hands and Veil over the past few months. Love them hazy IPAs.

No. I'm on a fitness kick: quit smoking, get to the gym 3x a week, distance running etc. I'm just aware of what happens to beer drinkers my age.

Phoenix has a growing microbrew scene as well. My favorite is Phoenix Ale Brewery, just north of the airport. Lots of people kill time there before or after a flight. Their beers are hoppier than average so IPA fans would like them. A second brewer, Sonoran, brews out of the same place. The head brewers and pretty much everyone who works there are maniacal fantasy football players, so I hit it off with them.

You said it. A nice dry German one is very good, but they get too fruity (see that shandy girly stuff) and really destroy your palate for any other food or drink, IMO. IPAs tend to compliment food.

The trend in IPAs over the past few years has been how high the IBU you can get, how bitter it is. Now the trend is how juicy or hazy it is, so you still get the fresh hop bitterness but it's no so damn dank and lingering. Also some places are now brewing IPAs with lactose and/or lulupin powder for a less "bitter" finish but still hop goodness.

yes. they have been playing leapfrog for about 7-10 years. i enjoy balanced pale ales and ipas, but prefer not to sort through the ocean of product that does not appeal to me.

If you're an IPA fan then definitely check out anything from Melvin Brewing. They're in Wyoming so not sure if available on the East Coast. Their beers are available in the PNW and they'll be opening a brewpub in Bellingham, WA sometime this year.

 

For those that mentioned liking bourbons/whiskey then you definitely can't go wrong with a nice boozy barrel aged stout or porter.

see I have had a string of about 10 straight blah IPA's all supposedly good ones, and I just have no desire to try another one

 

my go to beer is Firewalker 805 for a blonde, and for a red still prefer Fat Tire followed closely by a surprise in Killians Red

 

The Yardhouse house blonde is solid, their amber is horrible, but what I have determined, is that Reds I like Lager, and Ales are always bitter. I am sure it has something to do with all Ales, although I like Honey Blonde or Blonde Ales, IP ales and Amber ales just leave too much of an after taste

 

Still waiting to find the beer I crafted 25 years ago, it was a honey amber lager, haven't seen it matched to date
