I froze the draft because we need to untangle a couple of knots

Recommended Posts

First apologies to everyone. This has never happened before. hopefully we get unanimous consent and move on...

The draft is frozen, the 4.5 Maltese Falcon pick is not a real pick. It's just a just a phantom placeholder I inserted by me to freeze the draft and the timer is off. Two things are on my mind and need straightening out...

1) The disposition of IR players before the draft. I'd messed that up. I'd thought the rules were one thing but that's not as they were written. And so we have a problem with that. I'd zigged and others zagged. this is entirely my fault.

2) 29 Guests also lives in Houston, was flooded out and missed critical days around the start of the draft and his cuts were never made and the site picked his first rounder. The weather screwed him. I knew MtSkibum was caught in the storm, not so 29 Guests and he got hit pretty badly (just how badly, I dunno, he owes us a story). But it was bad enough that he wasn't online for critical days. Had I known we could have delayed things but that didn't happen.

-----

I'll start with #2 to solve 29 Guests's problem.

2) Regarding 29 Guests, I've an idea that he can cut players now and be re-awarded his fourth round pick in 2017. Now he's still had his 1st round pick generated by the site and he missed a 2nd and a 3rd round picks since he'd not cut down.

I think Samaje Perine (spelling?) is a worthwhile 1.10 pick. The bot gave him a good player worthy of the spot so maybe we can roll with that as it'd not cause waves?

but then, he'd missed the cutdown deadline and only had one cut. So, his 2017 2nd and 3rd rounders were eaten though. My idea is to give him the 1.10 Perine pick , plus two supplemental picks (at 2.11 and 3.11) in 2018 to make up for missing his 2.10 and 3.10 this year. I think that's fair? Anybody else like it or got a better idea?

-----

#1 problem is more tricky. The league rules are that you can't go into the draft with players on IR, but I'd not realized it and not done it that way. I'd allowed teams to go into the draft with players on IR. Since the genie is out of the bottle, I think there's two ways to handle this, maybe there's more:

First solution: Fock it: For this year, we allow the owners to use IR before the draft. That would mean that Clerks can get Teddy Bridgewater back and put him on IR. It also means that worm can have Christine Michael placed on IR right now and also be eligible to have a 4th round pick. There may be other teams affected as well.

Second solution: Reapply the rule: Strip the four teams with Edelman, Enuwa, Meredith, and Ware of their last round picks. We've lucked out that this would still be possible and would not require reverting the draft. Fortunately, all four teams affected have open roster spots such that this can actually be done with little pain to no pain.

Either way a vote will be needed to figure out how to handle this situation in the future. I'm partial to solution one. I did it that way because it made the most instinctive sense not realizing the rules were written differently while two screws up my draft strategy but not terribly so and seeing as I'm the one who screwed up, I've no right to b*tch about it..

The problem is that perine sucks, he didn't come close to beating out fat Rob.

If perine does not do anything this year I think 29 should get a first and a 3rd supplemental next year.

This year I don't care about the IR stuff. Just let the draft play out as is and make sure it is properly executed next year.

As for 29 guests, after looking at his roster, he probably wouldn't have taken Perine. In addition to his 2018 1st and 2nd round picks, I would give him a 1.15 and 2.15 supplemental picks for next year.

In the end, I dont care about the IR stuff because its a free league and everyone is here to have fun. But to be honest, if it was a pay league, I would likely demand a better explanation and possibly bow out. Not to sound like a diick or anything but this kind of stuff irks me. We wrote bylaws to keep the league from having issues just like this. There are so many places in the bylaws that clearly state

- players on IR need to be taken off IR by a certain date

- cuts need to be made by a certain date

- IR is not availabkle during the draft.

Some teams have clearly benefitted not only from being able to use IR during the draft but now, randomly, being allowed to have players placed on IR who are not yet deisgnated for IR by their own NFL teams (which is also stated in the by laws)

If your player is placed on IR by his NFL team, he's eligible for IR in our league. If he comes off of IR in-season, you must make room on your roster for him within a week or else lose him.

I dont like the idea of us making assumptions on the status of players.... and really, it shouldn't come to that because IR does not exist right now. Everything is cut and dry and I really have no idea why it would have changed this year.

My personal vote is that all players need to come OFF IR and those final picks forfeited as those picks should not have existed in the first place.

Additionally, I see Rockford has placed Jake Butt, a rookie drafted this year, on IR to get an extra draft pick. This stuff just never happened before.

In regards to 29 guests, I am good with whatever the masses decide.

Award him an extra pick (1.15) next year, allow him to make a cut or 2 and give him a 4th and 5th this year. I'm good friends with 29 and hes a very easy going guy. Hes done a good job rebuilding his team and while it sucks that he got a random pick in Perine, I don't think it will kill his chances to be competative.

Gotta say I kinda side with Wonder on this. What's the point of having rules if we don't follow them. :dunno:

At the same time, I also realize that this draft has been a clusterfock from the beginning-and yes-I'm partly to blame, for not being ready. And I appreciate Volty going out of his way to accommodate me.

With that being said, I'll vote with which ever way the majority falls. I'm not going to make any waves.

Also fine with regards to whatever decision is made about 29 Guests.

Also, also, I still think public naked flogging would make a good punishment. :P

So, it seems by unanimous consensus, I'll take those players off IR now and remove the affected picks. On Saturday NFL teams will decalre their 53 man rosters then be able to place these players on IR and drop to below 53 to fill back up then and so we can too. The clock won't turn on though, especially seeing as it's nighttime stateside.

Next, regarding 29Gs, we can follow jtmeikle's suggestion, He will keep Pernine and be awarded a compensation pick of 1.15 and 2.15 in next year's draft. That sounds OK to me. He can also make some cuts now and be given his 4th and 5th+ rounders back. Note any cuts made though, they have to clear week one waivers.

A mea culpa is also in order. WW is right in that I didn't follow the bylaw rules. I'll type up more soon as it'll require research on my part. Where this is going though is that I don't think that this is the first time this has happened, only the first time that it's made waves. I think I've done the same thing in the past and IIRC, I think I did it for Gary. Maybe not. And maybe the situation isn't identical either. I'll type up more.

I've just unfrozen the draft and removed the Maltese Falcon placeholder pick that was stalling it. WW is free to pick but I have not turned back on the clock.

How I'm handling this is:

First, I've removed the Clerks 5.3, Maltese Falcons 5.5 and Victor Victoria 7.3 picks. I did nothing with Dr. Strangelove since he'd already cleared a roster spot with his two for one trade.

Second, I did not activate Jake Butt nor Ryan Tannehill. Also, in that vain, worm may feel free to place Christine Michael back on IR. When FCFS opens, it's open for everybody but those three teams may approach FCFS waivers with an open roster spot.

Third, I've (hopefully temporarily) activated the four players I put on IR that are not yet on their NFL team's IR. It's obvious to me as it should be to everyone that this is just BS NFL paperwork that shouldn't affect how we do things in CCDL. I intend to re-add them to IR before the draft ends. I'd thought we could do this with unanimous consent since it's clear what's going on. I don't want to run over WW though, who has objected to them being placed on IR, which is why I took them so I'll ask him to go along with it otherwise force a vote as it's crystal clear these guys all four of these guys are IR.

Finally I'll do that research now that I'd mentioned in the post previous to this one.

Volty, in the end, I just want the draft to be done and the season to start  . I don't personally remember IR ever being used before but i'm not going to worry about it being used this year. Im the type who voices my opinion though, when I see something that doesn't look right. It has not impacted my own team but Im also the type of person who generally just looks out for the overall good of the league. Meaning I don't just speak up when something impacts me or my team.

If everyone is okay with the current situation, it's fine by me and I would only ask that it not happen again since it's stated clearly in our bylaws..... OR our bylaws be voted on and revised for the future.

In the end i'm more concerned about 29guests (his well being first) and his teams situation, than any of the IR rule stuff.

Lets proceed and get the draft finished up

I've done one more thing just now ... I've given Deep Throat his 4th, 5th , 6th, and 7th round picks back.

So his 2017 1.10, 2.10, and 3.10 are gone and instead he gets Pernine and 2018 1.15, 2.15

I think that's pretty fair.

Dude still owes us a story though. He can put it off a while until he has enough screen time lately to spend on it, but when things settle down, he owes us one.

In doing so too, he'll have the clock turned off when he picks.

----------------------------------

I'll do a league poll at the MFL site for how to handle this in the future.

He lives in the area. He doesn't owe us a story.

The bigger issue has been the random, willy nilly, rules implementation.

At least for me.

Yeah... i remember trying to place Dez on IR (was it last year?) and being told I couldn't because the team hadn't designated him as such, yet, even though he clearly wasn't coming back.

29 Guests hasn't been around online much at all. Since he did check in briefly, we are on his mind... somewhere....

Maybe I'll make a few roster moves for him, but we'll give it some time, things need to wrap up by Thursday though as we can't be having non-full rosters going into Chiefs/Pats game, let alone waiver wire moves in FCFS for at least a day or two before...

ill try my best to reahc out to 29 and see if he wants me to handle things for him during this time. I helped him out in our fantasy baseball league earlier this year when he was dealing with some personal matters so I know he trusts me.

Much like the amount of monkeys FFT can handle, the league can only handle so much patience for 29 Guests. Pats and Chiefs play on Thursday which is cutting it a bit close. Once he's been on the clock for 24 hours, I'll take over the Deep Throat team and bring it to a conclusion so we can get the draft over and start FCFS waivers.

Thanks WW for your help, bro. You've always had my back which is much appreciated.
I'm not sure what type of story y'all want. <_< :dunno:
It was a shitstorm here and we were in boats, jet skis and big ass trucks to evacuate folks.
Everything else took a backseat.
As always, thanks to WW for having my back.

We were pretty much living on an island.
I'm in H-town.
Haven't been to work since 8/25.
I'm not going anywhere, though thinking about flood insurance since we are getting surrounded by a concrete jungle. Even the deer have nowhere to go. Focking nuts.
Thanks for your concern.

Considering the pictures that hit the news, I'm glad your house was on "an island" because remaining above the water line would indicate that you were spared you the worst. The least bad places to be in Houston had to be those islands. Since you still live at home, it sounds like, for you personally, hopefully minor to no damage adn that once the streets and roads are cleared up, you'll be ready for normalcy and have an easier time of that than a lot of other people.

What part of town do you live/work?

Like I said earlier I live in sugar Land and work over by beltway 8 and westheimer.

Hopefully you are not down in the friends wood area.

Thanks. We had a total of about 30 inches. We couldn't keep up with the rain gauge it was filling up so fast. Thanks to great drainage diligence and French drains. We probably had a total of 50 inches around us.
