Good idea for a list of movies based on real people and events.

Blow

Black Mass

Donnie Brasco

Public Enemies

I see a trend developing here

Public Enemies

can't include goodfellas, as it would win easily.

and the trend is Johnny Depp

Was The Departed loosely based on true stories too?

im probably watch least movies of anyone here....but grown men really haven't seen the movies on this list? do you live under a mascara covered rock or something??

It’s a GC only thing. Seen all of these dozens of times each. Never even met or known a grown straight man who hasn’t. Not even because I had to seek them out, they were just...on.

Times I have seen the movies listed.

Shawshank only once all the way through, but have seen snippets of it a ton of other times, flipping through channels

Braveheart - I'll say 5 easy, maybe more. (i've seen the patriot at least 15)

SPR - a good 5 to 7

Godfather - 10+

Goodfellas 25+

Since my son was born, Aug 2013, of all listed, have only seen the Godfather

This is Shawshank; and I don't feel it's close. I honestly saw Shawhank Redemption in 2010. For the first time. I am 48, I have watched it at least 100 times since, Goodfellas would be #2 from the list.

Some people do not watch TV.

I do not watch any of the most popular TV shows, not because I would not like them, but rather because I almost never watch TV.

Breaking Bad

Sopranos

Game of Thrones

etc.

I have not watched any of the above list, that goes with many movies as well. I probably watch 6 movies a year at home. It has been at least 3 years since I have been to a movie theater.

If I listed the last 5 movies I watched in a movie theater a Lord of the rings movie would make the list. :shocking:

Great list of movies for this poll. I took Goodfellas and one reason is it is based on real people and real events. The acting is terrific and the soundtrack is awesome!

The soundtrack was perfect. The Billy Batts scene in the bar, the walk through the kitchen, Henry running from the helicopters. Even Bobby Vintons cameo was great. And the end with the Sex Pistols doing My Way. Just perfect.

I've never seen Braveheart :dunno:

Me neither. Can't remember The Godfather and thought Private Ryan was pretty meh as well.

Shawshank is clearly the best, though Goodfellas was good too.

You guys that haven't seen Braveheart.

Do your self a favor and watch it, unedited, from the beginning. It has to be watched at least once.

One of my favorite movies. Excellent, and based upon history.

I've only seen a handful of movies more than once, and none more than 3 times in their entirety. :dunno:

My only complaint was use of the word fock twice as I don't think that was a word then.

Educational as well. I wouldn't have known about Prima Nocta (sp?) otherwise. There's a job perk that no longer exists.

Went with BraveHeart.

That's an epic. The rest are movies I'll be a good ones. But we've seen variations on everything else in multiple movies before. 2000 World War 2 movies 900 prison movies Etc

Besides, when the king throws that fairy War counselor at the window is still one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever. Totally unexpected and freakin hysterical.

I have Shawshank Redemption, Braveheart, and The Godfather on Blu Ray and it was between those three for me. I went with Shawshank.

Tough call. Braveheart, Shawshank, Godfather (I&II) and Saving Private Ryan are all top ten movies. It would depend on what mood I'm in I guess.

I'll take Shawshank.

Or have to mention when the part of the group who couldn't lay low and not flash the money around end up dead

- the finale of Layla. Brilliant.

Damnit, Ed. Great list. Just have to go with Shawshank, though. I could watch that movie a thousand times and never bored. Braveheart is a close second. It made me hate Brits for a few years
