The government will dictate exactly what people eat now?

Recommended Posts

You don't see the Chineseses or dotheads on the food stamps. The black and Spanish much more. And why are the "native Americans" getting any? Don't they have a reservation where they can fish and hunt and grow like their peaceful, productive ancestors?

Truth. Blacks make up 25% of food stamp recipients, while only being 12% of the population. As opposed to Asians, who makes up 2.1 percent of recipients, while bring 6% of the population. That means they're 6x more likely to receive food stamps than Asians.

Nationally, most of the people who receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are white. According to 2013 data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the program, 40.2 percent of SNAP recipients are white, 25.7 percent are black, 10.3 percent are Hispanic, 2.1 percent are Asian and 1.2 percent are Native American.

Cool. Then it's not racist.

This. I always think of a time I was at the check out line and the woman in front of me had 2 overflowing baskets of food and paid for it with the flag card. I'm paying for it and her family was eating better than mine. Somehow that's just not right.

Saw the same thing. Loaded into a Cadillac Escalade.

Huh? The largest percentage isn't working and have no car, hell in my area come good weather they're all sitting on the front porch or in the yard in an auto seat pulled from an old clunker.

You can be sure if they start mailing this stuff youre going to hear endless complaints about missed deliveries etc.

Put a large troth outside of the projects housing and dump expiring food that would be thrown out from grocery stores into the troth.

Beggars can't be focking choosers.

Right.

These are the same people who would complain if they received $100 in quarters because they would be too heavy.

Lets make it harder for them to get their food. It may cost us more in the long run but hey: We focked the poors over. Whoot.

My point is. If Bobby focking Flay went the some recipients hone and cocked their focking meals they would still find a reason to complain.

Yep. So why make it focking harder? Just give them their pittance and be done with it.

I'd complain if Bobby Flay cocked my food.

I'd like to focus on getting cheaper healthcare after having worked 35 years but fock no,I'm a small business owner paying $390 month with a $6600 deductible before anything kicks in,don't even get one doctor's visit but focking worthless POS over there that doesn't contribute one damn thing to society has better cheaper coverage than I do.

That sucks. You should lobby for single payer instead of getting hung up on the guy robbing the petty cash drawer.

I get it man. These programs need to exist, because children are innocent in all of this. But, at the same time, if youre going to receive government aid, you should be required to follow some sort of guidelines. Just like you and I do, when we go to work every day.

Depends on the source, but just digging around online it looks like a pretty strong majority of food stamp recipients are disabled, elderly and/or working poor with kids. You really think shipping these people nutritious food is going to nudge them into the workforce?

Once again the board creates their own narrative when in reality the Trump Administrations recent proposal is for food delivery services to replace A PORTION of the food stamp program.

I'll let it pass. Fishtown isn't an intellectual hotbed.

You could try saying what you mean like a grown man instead of like a snarky preteen goth chick.

Yet you refuse to acknowledge the real problem of corpution and waste. You never said a word when Obama gave Trillions to his cause and it’s supporters.

Fake outrage!

It's not even about the abuse of the system. It's about a small percentage that have children they don't want to get more money. You've seen them. They treat the kids like sh!t. Then the kids grow up angry at the world and you can understand why. But they turn that anger on innocent people. The system is broken and something needs to change to stop this cycle.

For all intents and purposes, its a great idea. Imagine the drop in fraud when they arent selling the food stamps for 50c on the dollar

I couldn't disagree more with ksb. Michelle Obama came up with a stupid idea of putting calorie counts on every ###### menu. Like somebody's walking into McDonald's and ordering a Double Quarter Pounder with cheese and decides to have a salad because they saw the calorie count.

Not to mention, this created a huge unnecessary cost to small businesses. Its a real ###### Boon for the people who make menus though.

Trump's trying to dial back all kinds of good legislation that occurred under Obama but he's going to let this one go through? Cheesus.

Just proves my point that the wives of presidents should just shut the fuk up. The bush ladies got it right. This isn't England, just because you're fukking the king doesn't make you Queen.

I look at the calorie counts all the time. Every now and then I say fock it and get the 1,000 calorie thing anyway but its quite rare :dunno:

So I just got a call that the local newspaper wants to come in, will be here in 10 minutes to get my opinion on the proposed changes to the SNAP program. You buttnuggets keep debating it here, I actually have to put some thought into this and try to respond and provide information in a way that isn't going to p1$$ people off. As I'm usually on the fence, I'll probably make liberals mad as I'm not doing enough to protect the most vulnerable, and conservatives will be mad if I show signs of support for programs they perceive to be filled with abuse and misuse.

Can someone tell me WHY this is a bad thing? Ive seen people with the EBT cards able to buy cigarettes. So the government is tired of you spending the money they give you for free on useless stuff not needed and decided they are just going to give you the food. Food that actually has nutritional value besides junk food

So the government is tired of you spending the money they give you for free on useless stuff not needed and decided they are just going to give you the food. Food that actually has nutritional value besides junk food

I'm pretty positive Alcohol and Tobacco are pretty much the only two things you can't buy with an EBT card. You can always pull out cash and buy them though.

Here are some things you can buy though...

Quesarito: Taco Bell is one of many fast food restaurants that accept EBT cards. Guacamole is extra? Who cares? It’s on the taxpayer.
Bail: Convicted felons – like drug dealer Kimball Clark – have reportedly used their EBT as bail money. Clark reportedly instructed someone to go to an ATM to withdraw money from his EBT for bail. Because it’s difficult to trace ATM abuse, many speculate this problem is more widespread and not just found in isolated incidents.
Lingerie: Kiss My Lingerie, an adult store in Gonzales, Louisiana, accepts EBT. Other adult stores have also been known to accept welfare transactions. In this case, officials said the store doesn’t violate the rules for EBT because of discrepancies in the law.
KFC: Well, chicken is a protein, and protein is good for you, right? KFC is another well-known fast food chain that accepts EBT.
Shoes: While Payless ShoeSource is known for their BOGO sales, they’re certainly not the cheapest place to buy shoes. Despite the prices and functionality, they also accept EBT.
Strip clubs: Last year, the New York Post reported that FOIA requests revealed welfare recipients were regularly making EBT withdrawals at the ATMs near and inside infamous porn shops, liquor stores, lounges and hookah parlors. Technically, it also doesn’t break the law because of the “cash assistance program.”
Lobster: There have been multiple cases of this. As long as it’s not tobacco or alcohol, you’re golden.
Starbucks: While corporate stores don’t accept EBT, any Starbucks in a Target or grocery chain is considered a grocery item. So $7.00 for a mocha cookie crumble frappuccino and pumpkin loaf? Go.
Cold hard cash: Some people are in the business of selling their EBT benefits for cash. Craigslist has been a great conduit for these “creative entrepreneurs.”
K-cups: A lot of people don’t buy coffee in this form because it’s too expensive, but it’s not off limits in the world of welfare.
Cupcakes/Gourmet cakes: It’s considered food, no matter the price. Hello, non-essential $45 cake.
