MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted May 2, 2018 sweet! ill be offshore real soon. but wait? is that a building on horizon? no shot you see land 80 off. but then again you got tilefish?youd have to be. you fishing northeast? It is a production oil platform. It takes the oil from many wells, does a little preprocessing, and then puts it in the main oil line back to shore. We were there for nighttime tuna fishing as tuna tend to aggregate around these platforms. Our boat did better than most, I landed a blackfin and one other person on my boat landed a blackfin. Most boats did not land a single tuna this last weekend because the barracuda were too thick. I probably caught 20-30 barracuda and could have caught more if i kept at it. The other benefit of fishing the production platforms is you can tie off on them. They have 24 hour crews that keep somewhat of an eye on you and we all go to sleep for a few hours. It makes the overnight trips easier in a center console.

MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted May 2, 2018 got ya. but in the one pic you're holding up tilefish? Yeah, we headed out at 4pm and got to the platform 80 miles offshore around 6:30 pm. We jigged for tuna, black jack, wahoo, etc from 6:30 until 12:30 and then slept until 6:00 am. When we woke up we jigged for another hour before deep dropping for tile fish in 900 feet of water. We moved 100-200 yards away from the platform before dropping for tilefish. All of these fish are in the same area in the gulf of mexico. Tilefish are some of the best tasting fish out there. I am glad that they are not heavily commercially fished. They are tons better than snapper or salmon.
