Illinois State Capitol displays holly, a menorah, and a Satanic statue.

Recommended Posts

(CNN)The Illinois State Capitol is decking the halls with holly, a menorah, and a Satanic statue.

This holiday season, the Satanic Temple of Chicago has been granted permission to place their statue in the lobby of the state Capitol building in Springfield, Illinois, a spokesman for the Secretary of State's office told CNN.
The statue is approximately four and a half feet tall and about 18 inches long, spokesman Dave Druker said, and it depicts a snake wrapped around an arm holding an apple with the inscription "knowledge is the greatest gift."
The statue has been on display since Monday and will remain through the end of the month, according to officials.

Those people should die.

I used to be that kind of athiest. These people don't actually believe in Satan they do it to piss off the Christian's. They hope that if they can offend them enough they can stop people from celebrating their religion on government property.

Whatever. They are self loathing trolls at the end of the day. Now that they have some legitimacy they will be forced to move on to other anti-social pursuits.

I used to be too.

I still object to public monies being spent on religious displays, but if the Christians want to fund it, I'm meh if the public land is used to display it.

If we can spend public monies on liberal beliefs i.e. abortions, then surely we can dole out a little cash for Christmas trees.

Idiot atheists are so brave talking about Christianity. Not so much Islam, which is a far more ridiculous religion.

If the government has a budget for these types of things there's nothing wrong with having it on government property and spending money on it.

Let's not forget government of the people.

I think a better way to fight for freedom against religion would be to get your people elected

Agree, but you cannot deny the power of economic terrorism, the mere mention of certain social contexts is enough to get billion dollar companies to react without a pause for thought....

100% agree. As I stated above the athiest do it to piss off the Christian's. And unfortunately the only line that can be drawn is let everyone do it or nobody. I prefer the former.

We need the Satanists, Pastafarians, and other organizations to consistently challenge the links between religion and government. Everyone freaks out over SHARIA LAW!!! when we hear about it, yet many in this country would gladly pronounce a National Religion and accept the outcomes.

There are still States that have the ten commandments outside their courthouses, and it's ridiculous and they should be removed.

Funny how every loser dogma just happens to have a holiday around Christmas.

History convincingly shows that December 25 was popularized as the date for Christmas, not because Christ was born on that day but because it was already popular in pagan religious celebrations as the birthday of the sun.

Isn't this exactly what our founding fathers wanted? Didn't they want all citizens to practice their religion of choice free from government sanction/persecution?

Didn't they also want the government to not show favoritism of one religion over others?

I say congrats to Illinois for doing what our founding fathers would've/wanted done.

Nah. Doing the right thing (by law/constitution) isn't always popular or easy. Illinois did what was right.

Hell, in the very Jewish populated city of Skokie, Illinois, the local courts allowed a full on Nazi demonstration. Bring on the Satanists.

I don't have a problem with Christmas trees. Nativity scenes I do.

And abortion provides a public good as it saves public money in the long run. Spend a penny on abortion today. Save a dollar on health care, schools, incarceration, etc tomorrow.
