I am 85% through the second book in the Chronicles of the Black Gate series, 6 books. Very good so far. The first book didn't really hook me until after the halfway mark. The second book is excellent. It's a magic fantasy series

Finished book 2. Its about as good of a single fantasy book as there is.

The first book is available through audible for free. The narrator is pretty good. The second book is 1.99. I typically read but I have been using audible more for the long drives I have

Finished book 5.  It feels like we are in for a 15 book series with the pace is going but it's been great so far.

Bone lord...just finished 5 books...kinda like litrpgporn.  Dante King is author...free on unlimited. Funny modern dialog and insults.. Good easy read...no wasted words..no descriptions of landscapes and skies etc...just action to action...good stuff...with threesomes and facials..

Yeah this is gonna be an epic for sure.  He's slow rolling it... but I actually don't mind too much in this case.  The zero to Godhood in 3 books template  leaves something to be desired.

Reading "creation mage" by Dante King..Evidently alot like Bone Lord...A creation mage is basically a sex mage...4 chapters in...just got to "Hogwarts" to learn he is a mage...etc.  has a sorting Bong instead of Hat.  Kinda funny modern references so far.

I started One last night

Ready Player One.

I couldn’t get into it when I started it and gave up on it. Then last week I was bored gave it another chance. Just finished it. Totally out of my reading style but was a very good book. Probably what kept my interest was 80’s references that was my youth.

'The Reckoning' by David Halberstam.  It's basically about the history of the auto industry in American and Japan - focused on Ford and Nissan - but with a lot of tangential historical asides about oil, Japanese reconstruction, etc.  Fascinating stuff.  In the hands of a lesser writer it could be pretty dry stuff but Halberstam makes it a page-turner.  The only thing I'd read of his prior to this was 'The Education of a Coach'.  Now I'm thinking I need to read a lot more of his books.

I want to start this... but it's slated for ten books and doesn't appear it will be finished for a couple of decades.

I posted this in the "Sober" thread, and said I'd repost here:

For the drinkers here, I am currently reading the book "The Lost Weekend" by Charles Jackson which I highly recommend.

https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Weekend-Charles-Jackson/dp/0307948714/ref=sr_1_1?crid=YWXM5TUQ1N9F&dchild=1&keywords=the+lost+weekend+charles+jackson&qid=1617288713&sprefix=the+lost+weekend%2Caps%2C235&sr=8-1

My drinking patterns are different than the character's, but some of the other similarities are chillingly accurate, certainly back when I drank a lot more than today.

Quote

The classic tale of one man’s struggle with alcoholism, this revolutionary novel remains Charles Jackson’s best-known book—a daring autobiographical work that paved the way for contemporary addiction literature.

It is 1936, and on the East Side of Manhattan, a would-be writer named Don Birnam decides to have a drink. And then another, and then another, until he’s in the midst of what becomes a five-day binge. The Lost Weekend moves with unstoppable speed, propelled by a heartbreaking but unflinching truth. It catapulted Charles Jackson to fame, and endures as an acute study of the ravages of alcoholism, as well as an unforgettable parable of the condition of the modern man.

This sounds awesome. I have hit a reading wall right now. My backlog is too big.
