Yeah this is gonna be an epic for sure. He's slow rolling it... but I actually don't mind too much in this case. The zero to Godhood in 3 books template leaves something to be desired.
Cloaca du jour 2,015 Posted February 6, 2021 Reading "creation mage" by Dante King..Evidently alot like Bone Lord...A creation mage is basically a sex mage...4 chapters in...just got to "Hogwarts" to learn he is a mage...etc. has a sorting Bong instead of Hat. Kinda funny modern references so far.

parrot 789 Posted March 18, 2021 'The Reckoning' by David Halberstam. It's basically about the history of the auto industry in American and Japan - focused on Ford and Nissan - but with a lot of tangential historical asides about oil, Japanese reconstruction, etc. Fascinating stuff. In the hands of a lesser writer it could be pretty dry stuff but Halberstam makes it a page-turner. The only thing I'd read of his prior to this was 'The Education of a Coach'. Now I'm thinking I need to read a lot more of his books.

jerryskids 4,797 Posted April 1, 2021 I posted this in the "Sober" thread, and said I'd repost here: For the drinkers here, I am currently reading the book "The Lost Weekend" by Charles Jackson which I highly recommend. https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Weekend-Charles-Jackson/dp/0307948714/ref=sr_1_1?crid=YWXM5TUQ1N9F&dchild=1&keywords=the+lost+weekend+charles+jackson&qid=1617288713&sprefix=the+lost+weekend%2Caps%2C235&sr=8-1 My drinking patterns are different than the character's, but some of the other similarities are chillingly accurate, certainly back when I drank a lot more than today. Quote The classic tale of one man’s struggle with alcoholism, this revolutionary novel remains Charles Jackson’s best-known book—a daring autobiographical work that paved the way for contemporary addiction literature. It is 1936, and on the East Side of Manhattan, a would-be writer named Don Birnam decides to have a drink. And then another, and then another, until he’s in the midst of what becomes a five-day binge. The Lost Weekend moves with unstoppable speed, propelled by a heartbreaking but unflinching truth. It catapulted Charles Jackson to fame, and endures as an acute study of the ravages of alcoholism, as well as an unforgettable parable of the condition of the modern man.
