ABC News

LOS ANGELES -- The Justice Department and Internal Revenue Service on Thursday announced the filing of a 36-count grand jury indictment against Michael Avenatti, the attorney famous for representing porn actress Stormy Daniels in legal battles against President Donald Trump.

The indictment filed against Avenatti alleges he stole millions of dollars from clients, didn't pay his taxes, committed bank fraud and lied in bankruptcy proceedings. If found guilty, Avenatti could get a sentence of more than 300 years in federal prison, United States Attorney Nick Hanna said Thursday.

"If convicted of the 36 crimes alleged in the indictment, Mr. Avenatti would face a statutory maximum of 333 years in federal prison plus a mandatory two-year consecutive term for an identity theft count. Of course, the ultimate sentence would be to a judge following a conviction," Hanna said.

That's my favorite part of the entire thing...and AFTER the 333 years, you got two more years.  :D

To be fair. 333 years is only like 150 years with good behavior.

Why do bad things only happen to good people?

So no as 2020 Dem frontrunner?

🤪

Not the front runner, but now-a-days 36 indictments won't get you disqualified from running.   :D

On the Democrat side of the aisle, anyways.

The GOP has higher standards for their candidates.

I'd still like to see him run and am hoping this won't dissuade him.

Well, you have to admit it would suck...for it to be year 334 in prison, have someone ask what you’re in for, and you have to say “identity theft”.

Why would he have to say that? He’s in prison, he can say whatever he wants.

Avenatti appeared most frequently on CNN, which welcomed him an astonishing 121 times. MSNBC also had a high tally, having him on 108 times. He made 24 appearances on broadcast news; 12 on ABC, seven on CBS and five on NBC.

Avenatti appeared on Fox News twice.

No punishment will be too harsh for this man. But I hope he is not killed in prison, as i prefer he be raped for the rest of his long incarceration.

I was going for comedy and I feel really good about the joke, so I am thinking this one is on you.

I mean, think about it. If you walk up to a guy in the yard that has been in for 334 years, you are probably thinking this dude must have killed a bunch of dudes. Then you ask, and his answer is identity theft, which may be the weakest answer one could give. It's ironic, possibly in a Jagged Little Pill sort of way, depending on if I understand the definition of the word. And it's funny. Imagine it with Steve Carrell playing the part of Avanetti, and maybe that'll help.

Cohen and Avenatti have really exposed that some high level lawyers are incompetent to an almost absurd level.

Remember when Democrats and Liberals were getting behind him for a 2020 run against Trump?  How they were praising him and extolling his virtues by going after Trump?

  Yeah, me too.

I’m still hoping he'll run. Campaigning from prison would be hard, especially if he has no interest access, but surely they could provide him a live stream during the debate.

Maybe the Dems can hold the debate in prison to highlight their inmate voting rights commitment.

Campaigning would be hard, but if he won, he'd be able to pardon himself!

Get him back on?  Hell, the Democrats were touting him as a Democratic Presidential Candidate for them at one point.  That's how enamored they were with him.
