If I could ask our leaders a question it would be the following. "I'm a federal employee. I don't make as much as a you, but I'm not that far off. Especially if I take into account my spouses earnings. Because our incomes are so similar, how do I become a multi millionaire like you?"

Sanders anticipated your question.  His answer is basically that he's better than you.

“I wrote a best-selling book,” he said. “If you write a best-selling book, you can be a millionaire, too.”

In fairness, three years ago he was running a pretty fine presidential campaign that generated a lot of excitement and increased his popularity to the point that writing a book was going to be a surefire best seller.

I wonder how many illegals live in his neighborhood.

Just the ones cleaning his house and mowing his lawn for a buck an hour.

Until Trump came along, all presidential candidates released their tax returns. Presumably that includes Bernie 2016. I don't recall anyone making a fuss about his returns then, and if the difference now is a book deal, I don't care, I'm not going to make issue with it.

And at least he does release it.

We can only imagine what Trump's look like, I presume they're meticulous and perfect with every possible deduction deducted and an unreasonably low overall %.

Yes, true, but....he has pointed out over and over how unfair it is that people are successful, so when will he be giving away all HIS hard earned money?

I couldn't care less about ANY candidates tax returns.  Only crybabies do.  (crybabies = democrats)

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/27/how-much-you-have-to-earn-to-be-in-the-top-1percent-in-every-us-state.html

To be among the top 1 percent of U.S. earners, a family needs an income of $421,926, a new report from the Economic Policy Institute finds.

However, the threshold varies significantly among states. In Connecticut, for example, you need an annual income of $700,800 to be in the 1 percent. In New Mexico, you need $255,429.

Keep in mind that these numbers just represent the threshold — the average income of the top 1 percent nationwide is $1.32 million. The bottom 99 percent, on the other hand, earn an average of $50,107 a year.

Read on to see just how much your household would have to pull in to join the 1 percent club in every U.S. state.

In even more fairness, one could say that he profited off vilifying millionaires until he became one.  Then he suddenly stopped mentioning millionaires, and his quote above implies that his earnings are all from the sweat of his own brow and shouldn't be questioned, so like most socialists, he's cool with questioning everyone else's income, but doesn't want his questioned when he gets some money in his pocket.  Even if that money came from a platform of shaming people who earn a lot of money.

In other words, another POS politician

Thanks.  Seems like you cherry-picked that pretty hard. Most sites aren't citing the 400K figure.

"Well, if you are on an Indian reservation in armpit New Mexico, having 5 of your own teeth makes you in the 1%, so of course we'll average that in."..😁

I didn't cherry pick, I heard it before and knew it was in the 400k range as the national level

what did I cherry pick?

Who believes that Bernie won't exempt himself from the insane laws that he will want to impose on us peasants?

There won't be an exemption, but there'll be ways to avoid the taxes... ways that he and his friends will only know about.

Bernie gives me the same reaction as when George Costanza's parents come on the screen.

Turn the channel ASAP.

Yeah, and he'll pay it, right?  LOL  🤣

There's not going to be a loophole that he and others like him can exploit?

What he is really doing is pandering to the jealous and envious.

He preaches about equal "opportunity" but in a way that suggests he supports equal "outcomes", its a clever ruse to manipulate the uneducated and/or fully indoctrinated.

I know he wants to increase the top income tax rate along with the estate tax and capital gains rates. All three of them would hit Bernie personally. I hope his supporters would hold him accountable.

OP seems to have decided it’s hypocritical for Bernie to propose increased taxes because he is rich. That’s only true if Bernie is proposing increased taxes that won’t affect him personally.

Oh, I think he'll have all that he says in his plan.  I also expect there to be "outs", that he doesn't tell anyone about.

Okay and if Bernie’s plan creates loopholes for people like himself then that would be hypocritical.

Wow, Bernie is very generous with his money...

"Sanders and his wife disclosed $36,300 in charitable contributions in 2017, but their return does not detail each individual contribution. That same year, the couple announced publicly that they had donated $25,000 as a grant to launch the Sanders Institute, a nonprofit educational organization aligned with the senator's political and ideological interests."

A whole 2.7% of their money and 25K went to his own organization.  So $11,300 went to charity or 0.86% of his money...

Figures, keep his money but redistribute the rest evenly...

He's a politician.  I don't trust him.  I don't trust ANY politician.  That's why I don't want them to have my money.  That's why I don't want socialism, or Bernie.  It's all about big government.  Big government has never worked, ever.

By the time a hypothetical tax hike hit, the proceeds from his book deal would've long dried up, so he wouldn't be paying the taxes.
