A few years back, had an interesting trauma come in at the end of my shift. Dude shoots up some heroin, and decides he is going to climb a rotting tree in his yard and cut off the top portion, because who hasn't shot up heroin and had the urge to do some landscaping? Well, the tree wasn't having any of his sh*t, and in what I can only assume is a rare case of arborial murder/suicide, falls over, sandwiching him between itself and the roof of the house.

It's nice to see these hacks at work....proves Darwin was right. Just about every one of those incidents was as preventable. Stick to what you know.

I've taken down some trees and big limbs. Definitely got lucky several times that I wasn't killed or maimed.

That’s what she said! 🤭

This is the sort of thing that would happen to me if I were trying to save a few bucks by doing it myself.

No sh*t. People had an irrational fear of going to the beach after Jaws. I'm having the same feeling about taking down a tree, only I'm not thinking it's irrational. I've fouled up my share of home improvement projects, it's like I'm looking at myself. There but for the grace of God go I.

If you put Darwin Awards and "tree" on the Google search line, you will get plenty of results.

Every time I drop one its like the first time, and on occasion I hire people to do it where I know its outside of my scope of ability.

No one got hurt but a few years ago from my upstairs window I saw this guy cutting a big limb off a tree kitty corner to my yard... Could tell he didn't really know what he was doing. Anyway limb comes down and takes out a panel of my fence. Went down to the yard and first thing I said was "I take it you're not a professional."

Words to live by. I do it for a living & am shocked at what I see homeowners trying to do from a ladder in order to save a few bucks.
