San Francisco: People are pooping more than ever on the streets...

Recommended Posts

https://www.sfgate.com/technology/businessinsider/article/People-are-pooping-more-than-ever-on-the-streets-13778680.php

One of America's wealthiest cities has a huge problem with public poop.

Between 2011 and 2018, San Francisco experienced a massive increase in reported incidents of human feces found on public streets.

In 2011, just over 5,500 reports were logged by the San Francisco Department of Public Works; in 2018, the number increased to more than 28,000.

The government watchdog Open the Books documented the sharp increase over time in a stunning chart, first spotted by the BuzzFeed editor John Paczkowski.

Notably, this is a chart of only documented reports — the actual amount of feces on San Francisco's streets is likely even higher than these statistics suggest.

"I will say there is more feces on the sidewalks than I've ever seen growing up here," San Francisco Mayor London Breed told NBC in a 2018 interview. "That is a huge problem, and we are not just talking about from dogs — we're talking about from humans."

San Francisco has struggled with a feces problem for years. The city even employs a "Poop Patrol" that attempts to keep the streets clean and focuses on the Tenderloin neighborhood.

But the problem is bigger than just keeping the streets clean — the issue appears to be related to the city's struggle to accommodate its homeless population amid skyrocketing rent prices and a decreasing supply of affordable housing.

A 2017 survey of San Francisco's homeless population counted nearly 7,500 people living on the street. That population faces limited public resources, and public bathrooms are no exception.

Whether the Poop Patrol is able to reverse the trend on San Francisco's streets remains to be seen, but there's an indication that the crew is a bandage on a problem much bigger than dirty streets.

-----------

Congrats to them?

Too bad Bowie is dead, otherwise him and Jagger could reunite for "Pooping in the Streets".  💩

Sooner or later one of those brilliant wackadoodle libs will enact a poop deposit.  Maybe 25 cents a pound.  Give the homeless something to do and some drug money and also help clean up the streets.  Two birds.

Smear it out to dry in the sun it can also be used in a cook stove as the Mongolians do with their Yak dung.

I was there about a year ago, I don't know the neighborhood names but towards the north past the convention center.  I can't say I actually saw poop, but dang I had to walk past a lot of homeless people.  :(

And they accuse Trump voters of being in a cult. How could you keep voting for the same people like Newsome, Pelosi, Feinstein, while there are people shitting in the street like it's Bangladesh? Now that's some cultish behavior.

I did a thread about this a while ago, sort of. Here we actually have people in my community who will go to the trouble to document the Poopidge, take sample for DNA testing then get it tested at a lab 2 cross reference against every single domestic animal in the community to find the culprit and penalize the owner. I kid you not.

hey, if it's good enough for dogs...

On a related note, a couple measures are underway here in Colorado. One is good old-fashioned rent control. Because it turns out a lot of people can't really afford $1,800 + first and last + utility deposit + + + for a 700 square-foot apartment.

Good morning Christine one is revising the R1 building code. That code basically said one lot one residence. But if you have a sufficient size lot or home with a separate entrance, they're thinking of allowing for 2 units per lot.

Now there's a ton of issues like street parking that still have to be addressed, but I like that people putting on their thinking caps at least.

honestly, I don't know the solution. I heard that over 2 million people have served in the military since 9/11. You figure if even 10% of them come back completely wackadoodle and end up on the streets? That's a whole lot of people.

It’s literally a $hithole. The democratic representatives in California are more interested in putting Trump in prison then clean up there own $hithole state. Auntie Maxine has 55,000 homeless in her own district that have brought back typhoid. Of course she lives in her 5 million dollar home away from this mess.

And Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg. It’s easier to walk around them.

My recent visit to SF for a concert made me feel better about the homeless problem in Seattle. Makes us seem like JV team.

Gotta admit that while I saw a sh1t ton of homeless (pun intended) I can't say I actually saw any human feces. Then again while walking past the dregs of society I know to just keep walking.

This is the result of leftist ideology, making sure that the constitutional rights of the clinically insane are protected, even if it keeps them on the streets and subjects the rest of us to their aggressive/violent behavior, nevermind the dangerously unsanitary conditions they bring about. Just so they could virtue signal. Nice job. You won. Now what?

I know you want or need to have this black hat white hat World laid out for you. But those who actually know the subject can trace our growing homeless problem back to Reagan. One of the things that he did almost immediately was to shut down all of the mental health facilities that used to house these people. The rate of mental illness in the homeless population is through the roof.

As a double whammy, he and others started the massively fail riffic War on Drugs. So then prosecutors and municipalities had to decide weather to enforce laws of public urination or mandatory drug sentences.

It was a toxic mix. The jails filled up, so even if people wanted to Jail the homeless, they couldn't. Hell, most of them would love to be jailed.

And yeah, the Liberals had their way too. It's virtually impossible to get anybody committed these days. Much less into a drug, alcohol, or mental health facility that doesn't exist anymore because there's no taxpayer dollars for it.

as a result, both cops and liberals arrived at the same point for different reasons. But both of them know that they can't jail the homeless.

Even if the Liberals let you arrest them, the cops don't want to waste their time on that crap, and the prosecutors know there's no place to put them.

Nice try with the Reagan thing. The problem had been licked even after that short sighted policy. There were still measures that could be taken to get them off the streets, but liberals with their high mindedness came along and made those measures unlawful. I lived through it and worked through getting the homeless off the street. Spent my share of nights in the hospital getting one deloused before they went to jail or a shelter.

Good post.

I seem to remember that the rules for involuntary commitment, changed under Reagan also. They either had to be a danger to themselves or others, or you needed a court order. Before that, if they had a history of metal illnesses, you could have them picked up by the cops and admitted to a mental facility.

Reagan was great. And he lived through being shot by a "crazy guy". Lincoln got shot by a "crazy guy". Anyone who shoots someone else while not defending themselves or others is a "crazy guy". They aren't all homeless last I checked.

Crazy or not, Reagan policy or otherwise, I know that the main issue in Seattle at least is that the police are instructed by the liberal city council to not enforce the laws on the books. Camp wherever you want? Sure.  Sh1t and piss in public? Go for it. Shoot heroin in a bus stop middle of the day?  No worries!

Edit: forgot to mention they're pushing for "safe injection sites"

One time when driving into NY city I exited a highway and some dude came up to my window and started to spray some water on it so he could wipe it down and ask for money. I quickly used my windshield wipers and cleaned the window and dude got pissed. Started screaming and swearing at me. I wanted that dude to come at me though. I knew the guy was just playing his "homeless" game. I will help the homeless out, and have multiple times, but I have to know they are homeless first. Most of the dudes on the streets in Detroit for instance, that are begging for money are not homeless at all. Those are the assh0les. And there are a lot of them out there.

Bingo. No homeless problem in NYC for twenty years. Deblasio comes along and says leave them alone, they have rights. Poof! Homeless problem. Had nothing to do with Reagan.

Funny how the Cities run by the Left go to hell so quickly.

All part of the plan I guess.

In Seattle, the cops can’t look at anyone cross eyed without getting written up. They call the highway department for a clean up in aisle 4

wow. There's only about ten thousand articles that say otherwise. But if that's where we're starting from, never mind.

Ok Wiffle, I shouldn't have said no problem. You got me. The problem was under control. It got worse under Deblasio. Benign enough for you?

And the left will justify pooping wherever they want.  They will cite "Its natural. Now the right is trying to stop us from doing what comes naturally"

Sounds like the Shangri-la that the left dreams of.

This is what socialism brings. Free stuff as long as those paying the escalating taxes will tolerate it, no accountability from the vagrants, etc......... How long before the business owners decide to take their money elsewhere?

Homeless people reject developer's offer of 'free money' to leave area

Homeless advocates decried the stunt, asking the community "to stand together to protect our curbside communities against hate, xenophobia and anti-homeless behavior” in a counter event posted on Facebook.
