To a socialist, this is a good healthcare system......those too weak to survive are killed off, costs drop since the unhealthy die....

Why did Mick Jagger come to the U.S. to get his ticker operated on if the socialized medical system of UK is so great?

Our quality of care is great. Cost and access is our problem.

Yes, there is no Utopian solution.

True. We should consider overall quality of care along with access, cost and long term sustainability. I definitely think we can do better than a HC system that costs more per capita than any other nation and leaves millions uninsured while premiums go up by 10% per year.

I'm sure you are the only one to figure this out.

I think the only hope for improvement is to get the government OUT of it, deregulate it, open competition up.

I said something similar to pen one time. His reply was that when it was less regulated in the past, doctors were better businessmen than they were doctors. I don’t think he grasped how the free market works.

I think the fact that every other developed nation manages to cover their entire population while spending less than the US per capita on HC points toward the opposite conclusion. :dunno:

Unless they fly to America to get their healthcare since quality is more important than cost, like Mick Jagger....

The best way to judge a HC system is the quality of care it delivers to billionaires.

Cost and access is great in socialized medical systems? Wait times? Quality?

There are few billionaires, of those perhaps they all come to America to get healthcare, who knows.... plenty of people have health coverage, more would if it were not artificially expensive due to government interference.

I was humorously making fun of the idea that where Mick Jagger gets healthcare is relevant to the overall quality of that country’s health system.

Our healthcare is more expensive than any socialized system on earth.

Agree on Jagger abandoning the 'better" solutions in Europe to happily pay for our services style here in America being rather humorous.

Also agree that our system is too expensive, mainly because it lack true free market status. Get the government to back off and it will over time reach an equilibrium.

The fact that a multimillionaire pays out of pocket to get heart surgery here definitively PROVES that our system is superior.

I can’t respond to your free market claim because you don’t support it. Just saying in the real world there are actual examples of single payer systems that are cheaper and cover everyone.

A well functioning free market system seems to only exist in Randian fantasyland. :(

The reason it is superior is free market/capitalism.

Socialism would ruin the quality. Always has; always will.

You guys misuse socialism all the time. In a truly socialist system the state would own the hospital and the provider would work for the government. In a single payer system the government would pool buying power but the patient would be the payer.

You could probably go single payer and have a more cash based and legitimately free market HC system.

If it resulted in quality health care anywhere else in the world, why do the rich/famous come to America to get their surgeries?

there is a reason why it’s affordable in other countries. They don’t develop and new procedures or medications. They wait til we discover something then take it and use it. Without the current us healthcare system the rest of the world suffers

bottom line no country in the world is even remotely close to the care we provide

I love my health insurance. I sacrificed and worked for it. Why should I have to give it up?

Also, many countries cap what drug companies can charge in their country.  The drug companies still want to sell there so they adhere to those limits.  They know they can just jack up the price in the U.S. to meet their profit goals.  One of the ways that has been floated to deal with this issue is to allow the reimportation of drugs, which is currently illegal.  Think about that.  We would manufacture the drugs and ship them to another country, but it is still significantly cheaper to buy it from that country and import it back!  It's easy to have lower prices when you force the U.S. to subsidize your costs.

I literally just talked to a veteran Friday who told me he’s attempted suicide twice already cause he just can’t handle the VA anymore. He almost broke down in front of me because of it. I feel for these guys cause those were the Vietnam veteran guys who when they got out haven’t gotten quality healthcare for decades. Especially mental health counseling. Some of them are too far gone to counsel and end up taking their life.

That's horrible. My heart goes out to that Vet you encountered. Keep us up to date on him. Hoping for the best.

You keep falling back to "Our health care is superb so let's fock it up". You want more affordable health care, get a different job with better insurance and don't fock it up for the rest of us.

I have good health insurance. Our HC system sucks. Hopefully Trump replaces the ACA with “something wonderful” as promised, maybe after he erases the debt and gets Mexico to buy is the Wall. 👍
