Wow.  Nice.  How much did that set you back?  For your work, correct?

Yes, work(do lots of graphic animation and 4K video work) - cost a little over 5 grand, could easily build it myself, but the company that put it together  offers 3 years parts and labor.  Makes it worth it.   Not excited about having to spend the next couple of days installing every program I need...but otherwise.  Woooohooo

It goes really really fast for doing 3D animation work(I'll just say that next time).

Sick dude. Nice ass PC. I have a 2080 ti myself now.

Make sure you go into your BIOS and that your RAM is set to the XMP profile, you’ll gain 10-15 FPS.

And please tell me you have at least a 144hz monitor to go with it? Almost an insult to that PC to have anything less.

Do you want to overclock? I can help you get it going

It's a work computer and 90% of what I look at is 1 single frame of an animation that will playback at 60FPS...can't think of reason to get 144hz monitors, but perhaps you could talk me into it.   It's my boss's credit card.

Do a lot of motion graphics work and the best to maximize the speed is to have one dedicated for cache only.

That's what I figured the 1TB was for. Do you need SSD space for video rendering?

You just dropped 5k on a PC may as well get a $250ish monitor to complete the build. Here’s a decent example of what it will do:

It just makes everything smoother and more enjoyable. It’s one of the best upgrades you can do for your build. I’d recommend an AOC monitor they are pretty affordable and work great.

This one is 13% off and you won’t find a 144hz monitor much cheaper than this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D377Q6D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Jzf0CbG6SRH7X

Also has a 1ms latency time.

He’s probably using that as storage and the other two as boot drives.

Actually that's pretty impressive, might have to think about that.  Thanks.

Yeah for sure, I promise you won’t regret a 144hz upgrade. Here’s a much better example:

New work computer, the best of times and the worst of times.

Our work went from a 3 year refresh cycle to a 5 year refresh cycle.  By the time the 5 years is up, we're begging to spend a bunch of time installing everything on a new computer.

Seems sweet but the next computer I build will use NVME instead of SSD.  Is it too late?

Yes - and now that I'm reading about NVME -

Next time I'll post the specs here, get suggestions than buy the system.

Can we might see some samples of your work?  🤔

They sound good in theory, but have never actually worked in any office they've been tried.  :dunno:

If you are doing strictly office work a 60hz is fine, unless you want to splurge. If you are doing video editing or gaming 144hz+ is a must.

It will take you 10 min to pop open the case and put the nvme drive in.

Anyone have a gaming laptop?  Thinking about getting a Razer Blade 15...didn't even knew Razer made computers until I started doing some research.

I prefer desktops for gaming. It's easier to swap GPUs and extends the life of the computer

I don't think it's the same company that made your scooter.

Good god man!  I'm happy for you.

Someday I will game at 2k... maybe even 4k.  Today is not that day.  My GTX 1060 and 4690k cpu are good enough for 1080p gaming.  First thing I have to upgrade is the cpu.... $350+. But of course that requires a new mobo ($100+), and requires 16 gb DDR 4 RAM ($120+). Then the graphic card.... ($400 - $600). And of course a 2k or 4k monitor ($500-$700).

All that to play a video game, which my current stuff can play fine at 1080p.

Enjoy the pixels.  Most of us can't pull that trigger.

I just bought a new laptop. Wanted to so some light gaming, but didn't want a huge gaming laptop. Bought a Huawei Ultrabook. It can play the games I like (civ VI, the empire series, stuff like that. I'm a turn based strategy guy) but damn it gets hot as hell. I'm afraid I'm gonna burn it up.

It’ll just cut voltage before it will burn it up, that doesn’t happen.

Download https://novabench.com/

Start your game, once you think it’s as hot as it’s going to get, open the temps up

Safe CPU temp is 85 or under for most CPU’s and 75 or under for most GPU’s

I overclock the sh!t out of my rig and run at 90 on my CPU and my overclocked GPU at 88. I’ve never had a piece of hardware fry on me and that will probably be a good 10 Celsius higher than any load you’ll put on it. You’re good, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Ok thanks. This particular model has inadequate cooling according to all the online geeks. It gets hot enough to be painful after a bit. Need to buy a cooling pad for it I think.
