You know what grinds my gears?

Recommended Posts

My small town of approximately 5000 people had a school levy on the ballot yesterday that if passed would require homeowners with a home valued at or over a certain dollar amount to pay. If your home was valued under that dollar amount then you would not be impacted. Thankfully the levy failed with flying colors, but my question is why in the fock are you allowed to vote on that measure if you do not live in one of the homes at or over that dollar amount?

Oh, it’s the latest fad in American politics: ‘From each according to his ability to each according to his need.’

Maintained a long-standing corollary to that. And bear in mind that property tax is one of the things I do for a living.

For the life of me, I don't understand why both the elderly and those who choose not to breed and further suck up state and local resources have to pay the same amount of property tax as the f****** Breeders next door that squirt out 10 kids and expect the state to do their job for them.

I know the argument. And it's 10 gentle at best. Oh, a better educated Community is good for everyone! B*******. We don't apply that standard anywhere else. You talk about socialism? Jeesus

 99% of most property taxes go towards things like building and maintaining schools. Which is fine. As long as those that receive the benefit directly are the ones paying for that benefit.

But I'm supposed to pay for your f****** babysitter? F*** you.

While I share your frustration at how our society is set up, imagine if only affected people could vote on things.

Only people making minimum wage can vote on what the town's minimum wage is.

Only woman can vote on whether or not the town's abortion clinic will allow them to terminate the pregnancy after 8 months.

etc.........

Think of the people that want open borders but don't want the immigrants transferred to their town.

I believe you should only be able to vote if you are a male land owner and have passed a common sense civics test. We allow way too many people to vote these days.

I agree we do have too many people voting these days.

If I ran things, you'd use your W-2 as a Voter registration card. You don't work (even stay at home moms/dads) you don't vote.

I'll chip in with a standard response before anybody else does. What if there was a proposed Mill Levy to support the local fire station? Should only those that look for and pay the mill Levy have their homes protected by the fire department? See, the argument there is, if you allow somebody else's home to burn then even if you've paid the mill Levy, your home might be right next door and burn down too.

I'm not arguing for or against, I'm just getting ahead of the curve rhetorically. Certainly there are limits and this would be one of them. Their prices to be paid for living in civilized society. In my case I don't think we should argument breeders poor decisions.

The problem with this point here is that this fire levy is being dished out to all town citizens/homeowners if it were to pass. The levy in my town was to be paid for only by citizens with a home valued at or more than a certain amount. If you rent or lived in a home that was valued less than that threshold you would not have to pay any additional taxes.

That shouldn't even be legal.

Fock, if anything it should be only those with children in the school system paying the tax. And spare me the "everybody benefits...." bullshit. I've seen the morons being turned out by the public school system. Trust me, nobody but the teachers and administrators is benefiting from the public school system these days.

I'm a HUGE Seinfeld fan and trust me, Newman barely comes into the equation.

My family & friends have discussed this issue in length for years now and here is roughly the breakdown.....

George = 35%

Jerry = 32%

Kramer = 18%

Puddy = 13%

Newman = 2%

I'm also saddened that you would say that

:thumbsup:  Try not having kids period and your county votes for a new middle school that increases your property tax by 25% yes 25% and we never had kids at all. :mad:

Moving cars from one side of the street to the other Doing such and such don't take no more
sense than putting on a pair of pants. My question to you is who's putting your pants on?

We're in the same boat. No kids but we pay for school bonds that the parents in the district voted for. Every school bond measure that comes up passes and we have to pay a little more. :angry:

Especially wimmens.

It's not really that big of a deal.  It's essentially a vote to make sure no one wealthy moves in to your town - depending on how high the tax was supposed to be.

I see this mostly in the neighborhood where I buy coke. Gas stations have shutdown their public bathrooms because heroin addicts go in there to shoot up and many die.
