Just saw this. Maiden embarking on world tour next year to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They'll be playing exclusively material from their 1980 debut album through 1992's Fear of the Dark. No US dates have been announced yet. I'm hoping Raven Age are holdovers from the European shows, they're excellent.

UP THE FAWKING IRONS!!!

Cool.  I'll be seeing them the week after I see Priest. :pointstosky:

Damn, you've got a kickass concert itinerary upcoming. After Priest I'll be waiting a month before seeing Dropkick Murphys and Pennywise.

Between the Priest and Maiden shows I need to figure out which acts to see on the two days I'm attending at Aftershock.  With 5 different stages it's hard to tell exact timing of when bands go on so I'll end up having to skip some acts when there is a conflict.

Headliner on Thursday is Slayer.  Will probably end up having to miss Pantera due to timing.  Ministry and Till Lindemann performing on same stage as Slayer so will probably just camp out there.

Friday headliner is Slipknot.  Never really listened to them but heard they put on a good show.  Want to catch Mastodon as they are always good but again might have to skip.

Just noticed Dropkick Murphys are playing Friday so I'll check them out!

You won't regret seeing Dropkick. Most of the acts you mentioned at Aftershock aren't really in my wheelhouse anymore, but I'm definitely curious to hear how the Ministry show is. Report back please!

I'm actually meh on Ministry.  Saw part of their set when they were opening act on Alice Cooper / Rob Zombie tour last year.  Not my jam.

Lindemann / Rammstein is focking nuts so I'm (bi) curious.

Have some friends that saw Rammstein last year. None of them are huge fans but all agreed the show was epic. One said it was the best arena show they've ever seen, and he's seen a lot, despite greatly preferring club shows (doesn't everyone?).

I've only seen videos of Rammstein shows.  Holy focking pyro Batman!  :shocking:

Allegedly the backstage parties are rapetastic!

Yeah, they said the pyro was scorching hot and they weren't even that close to the stage. Like a blast from a turbo charged furnace.

Bump for the focking blind @Fnord

(it had slipped down to page 5)

Thanks. Priest was great. I'd never heard Sabaton before and they absolutely shredded as an opener. Everyone I've talked to that went was knocked on their asses by their performance.

I was a little disappointed just because there were so many songs I wanted to hear but didn't; they only had so much time. I won't ruin the setlist if you dont already know it.

Halford is really old but gets around pretty good. Assuming they weren't using a ton of backing tracks, he still sounds monstrously great. Consumate metal singer and the rest of the band was sharp too.

I did make the mistake of drinking 8% beers at a brew pub before the show. I realized after I'd knocked back a couple more at the arena that I was pretty hammered. Then because of some skullduggery earlier in the day my trip home involved walking, bicycling, and driving. Next morning being to work at 6:30 was not enjoyable.

It was worth it.

We just got back from Vegas to see the Eagles at the sphere. I don’t even really know where to begin to tell you how incredible it is. It probably was the coolest concert experiences I’ve ever had.

Highly highly recommended if there’s anybody remotely you like that comes out there go see it. It’s quite the experience.

Thanks for the heads up on Sabaton.  I've put them on a few times and they sound like rousing Viking type songs.

Thanks for avoiding any setlist spoilers.  Glad you had a blast.

Yup. Made ya feel like grabbing a large two-handed weapon to go pillage the village, all sorts of ready for blood and fornication.

Despite my disappointment at what I did not hear, they did absolutely play a killer set. Their discography is just too big and varied to cram into one performance.

The sphere looks cool. Was Henley still lip syncing?

If you want to listen to more Viking sh1t then check out Amon Amarth.  Saw them when they opened for Ghost.

The entire amphitheater - folks on the floor and up in the seats like me - was doing the "oar pit" during "Put Your Back Into The Oar".  Was a focking blast!

I've heard Amon Amarth in the past. I like the music, but growling, unintelligible lyrics isn't usually my thing. Sabaton is NOT that.

My brother is a civil engineer in large construction, and worked on The Sphere.  Unfortunately this was being built during Covid and the head of MSG ran out of money (but wanted them to keep working; my bro's company finally gave him the finger and quit).  Bummer, since I probably could gotten an inside tour -- his last building was the Falcons football stadium, and I got to go to the first game there (pre-season vs. Cards) and get some inside info on the construction.

Agreed.  They put on a fun show but yeah I don't usually listen to too much growl-y music.

Never really listened to Slayer when I was a young lad.  Didn't dislike them but wasn't really my thing.

Doing a deep dive in preparation of show next week.  Damn it's gonna be fun!

I just hope my old ass doesn't get too damaged in the pit that will certainly form.   Especially since I fly home the next day and immediately hit the road for a son of a friend's wedding.

Can I get an early Ts and Ps from all you h0m0s?

:headbanger:

Trying to think how to describe this. He can still pull it off because their PA system and speakers are phenomenal, but you can definitely tell he’s struggling.
Everybody else is still really good and obviously Vince Gill is great, but yeah, you can definitely tell he’s at the end for sure.

  • Thanks 1

@Fnordwithout spoilers how many songs did JP play from their latest album?

I think they played one, but it was not the one I was expecting and hoping for.  I was pretty drunk, so don't take my word for it.

I should have posted my Korn experience in here. They were amazing. They partially covered the sone One by Metallica. It was epic.

Gojira was solid. Not as good as I had hoped. I can remember the name of the other metal band. Some chick was the lead singer. They were solid as well.
