Altitude is so weird---when to Breckenridge with friends a few years back, top slopes are around 13K---didn't feel anything, skied all day and into the night for as long as I could. Everyone else on the trip would do two or three runs and then need to rest because they were totally gassed. I honestly thought they were joking the first couple of times, cause I didn't notice anything. Again, based on my quick reading yesterday at Quora, the slope and setup, there isn't a technical mountain climbing reason you couldn't do it. When I did training at the restaurant there were a few people that were getting dizzy and had to be sent back down the mountain and moved to another position for Vail Corp. I thought they were exaggerating but I guess some people it really does affect in a weird way. If all goes well, we will have completed what is only 1/6 of the entire trip for someone who actually climbs (8 weeks total). We stand in awe of the fortitude and training and superhuman strength it takes to attempt a feat like Everest and are deeply honored just to be here and feel the Khumbu vibes." That's the way I'd do it, but I'm not particularly interested in the overall region. It would be impressive to take in the sheer magnitude of the mountain in person though. BunnysBastatrds 2,186 Posted January 21 I’ve mounted more three hundred plus pounds wemens than any. Fawk Everest. Take on climbing a six footer and do your best without oxygen. And thinking “I’ll get there whilst she almost smothered you on top of you. It was fun though. I brought her to eat Chinese at Red Dragon the night before. He saw lots of fat tourists at the base who didn't look like they had a chance of going far with hired Sherpas toting most of their stuff. Also saw a lot of tourists being carried back down. He said his permit only cost $20 or so, but a permit to climb to the peak is $12,000. This has been a bucket list item of mine. A friend who went like 5 or so years ago said that it's so covered with human shiiite and trash it's disgusting. So, I think I will try and find another hiking type goal. Maybe the Dolomites or something.

I think bandrus was picturing the climb of Everest as climbers scaling a 6 mile high cliff or something. I'd give you about a 75% chance. Altitude would be your biggest obstacle as with most. Every time you enter extreme altitude it is a crapshoot as to how your body reacts. Guys like Scott Fisher(guide on Everest-very young) who summitted like 8 times succumed to altitude in 1996 & died. Acclimatization is mandatory & usually takes a least a month. You use bottled oxygen most of the way. Everest has about 4 or 5 camps past base camp which you go up to, spend a few days & return. the last base camp(death zone) is the stepping stone to assault the summit. this is where it gets dicey because if a storm comes up you have to wait it out in order to summit. You really have only about 2 days in the death zone before you have to go down hill, fast. 100 MPH winds are not out of the ordinary, neither is 30 below 0 temp. things get hairy quickly. The 1996 disaster was caused by a late turn around time. If going for the summit & you don't reach it by say 2:00 PM you turn around so you get back to camp 4 or 5 before dark. The wait times because of an excess amount of climbers all going to the summit contributed greatly to the 1996 disaster, but it was the summit fever that got most as they reached the peak too late to descend in the light of day. Also about the time they headed down a storm with temps. & wind, like previously described hit the mountain. visibility was 1 foot. Everest is commercialized and has been for 20 plus years. You need stamina & good weather. Mountaineering experience is really not necessary on this mountain anymore. For instance the Hillary Step has a ladder you climb. Roughly $55,000.00 to be guided. From start to finish at least 6 weeks & more like 2 months, plus. Reinhold Messner, the greatest mountaineer of all time did Everest without bottled oxygen. First man to do so. https://www.peakmountaineering.com/everest-solo-without-oxygen/

In recent years, nearly 70% of people who "attempt" to summit succeed. The youngest / oldest to do it... 15 and 80. With modern gear, oxygen, and sherpa's toting everything.... the greatest challenge is having enough cash. With good weather, Stephen Hawking could make it.
