The Observer 641 Posted June 12, 2019 One of my favorite music genres. Which is your favorite?
BiPolarBear 476 Posted June 12, 2019 Social issues, THE voice, and the best National Anthem. If I have to tell you who, you wouldn't understand anyway.

I'm picturing a hybrid between Henry Rollins, Freddie Mercury, and Whitney Houston.
titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted June 12, 2019 I voted the temptations, but ottis Redding would probably be my favorite of the genre.

Otis was awesome, although I'd consider him more of a soul singer. Not really part of the Motown crowd. I could listen to him and Sam Cooke all day long. patweisers44 697 Posted June 12, 2019 From this list its either Marvin Gaye or Smokey. Some might argue Boyz II Men could be on the list as well as artists like the Commodores and Rick James (beotch!) could belong. Both were on Motown labels during their heydays at least.

I should have added an "other" option. There are some good ones not listed.

Hardcore troubadour 12,588 Posted June 12, 2019 I love all of them. The greatest genre of music this country ever created. Too bad black music went off a cliff.
jerryskids 5,169 Posted June 12, 2019 Voted Stevie but groups like the Commodores and Earth, Wind, and Fire should be on the list, if they count as "Motown".

Voltaire 4,554 Posted June 13, 2019 Every day I went to college (Wayne State), I'd park in the United Sounds Systems recording studio rather than in the school parking lot because I was cheap and I didn't want to toss away the $1-$2 or whatever it every day when I could walk an extra 30 seconds. It wasn't out of the way, it was the last free parking lot before the school's pay one. https://detroit.curbed.com/maps/mapping-motown-the-sights-sacred-to-the-sound Also, Supremes. They also had a couple of great songs in the early 'poppy' Motown era, but Papa Was a Rolling Stone was a great song later in their career with a totally different sound. MDC 5,877 Posted June 13, 2019 Marvin Gaye on this list. But if Curtis Mayfield is “Motown” he’s my pick. He was awesome.
