I know I know. Including the word "civil" in a thread regarding politics here is an oxymoron, but let's give this a try... 

Question for the Democrat leaning posters here: which current candidate(s) do you like and why? Which of their policies do you particularly like? 

Just trying to understand your take on the candidates. I completely understand "anyone but Trump", but just want to know who would you WANT to win vs simply who has best shot at winning. 

Please try and keep the usual flame war bullsh1t out of this thread. There's plenty of other ones to choose from for that.

It’s looking rough. Other night my wife was saying she thought Biden was a bad candidate and she didn’t even know any of the creepy kid touchy stuff yet. Warren will get picked apart, she can’t be the one they roll out. O rourke was the last Hope for a younger white guy who could represent well but he’s lost his steam apparently. Last wild card is grandpa Bernie and I really don’t know how that will go. Some say he would have won over Hilary, I don’t know enough about it to say that.

 

I think Biden is prob the best choice but I know the spotlight will drag him around with the creepy stuff and it will be tough to overcome.

As a still registered democrat, I'll be voting for Biden in the primary if he's still around. Even though he's pandering to the whack jobs on the far left, the other candidates are the hard left.

Want to learn more about Beto and Mayor Pete.

Not real interested in Booker, Biden or Harris.

I forget the other 57 varieties. 

I won’t make up my mind until the debates. I’m in a closed primary state so probably won’t vote in the Dem primaries anyway.

If I had to list my faves today, it would be Mayor Pete and Biden.  Mayor Pete because of the way he carries himself and his intelligence.  I've never heard him speak and not come away impressed. He is the anti-Trump as far as intellect, class, and dignity. He'd give me that proud to be an American feeling when he was speaking on the world stage. That is something I sorely miss.

Biden mostly because he would win the states that allowed Trump to lose by 3 million votes and still become president.  From a tactical electoral map perspective, Biden is rock solid and trump would have trouble beating him.

Also like Warren and Cory Booker.  But they're a definite second tier.

A lot of the younger people are going to vote for Biden for the primary reason that there were memes made with him and Obama. The other candidate would be Bernie because he promises free stuff and promotes socialism. Just today I saw a billboard ad for Bernie that said “Medicaid for all!”. I don’t believe either will win though

My problem with Mayor Pete is that I'm not sure the rest of the world is ready for a ghey guy to be POTUS.  Middle East, Putin, China... I dunno.  Nothing personal against him or his sexuality, just saying.

Wang is sorta a popular candidate du jour with his position on universal income but I don't know enough about his background to know if he could run a Domino's franchise let alone the greatest superpower in the world.

If Biden became POTUS I wouldn't hate it.  He is from my people in NE PA and I believe has the best intentions for the rust belt at heart.  Plus he'll cure cancer, so he has that going for him.

I really haven't been seeing much from the left on what they want to do except impeach Trump...

What they should do, which I doubt anyone ever does any more (either party), is to say what they want to do and believe in and don't even attack the others...  Run an honest smear-free campaign...  I am not sure in today's climate how it would be accepted, but I think it would be a huge fresh breath of fresh air to have any candidate say I will do X, Y and Z, talk yourself up...

The problem with my opinion is that it will probably be sanders, Biden, or Pocahontas. I do not like any of them and will probably vote for Trump or 3rd party. Not that my presidential vote matters anyways.

I am not a dem, as I have stated in the past my voting record has me voting around 30-40% dem, 60-70% republican. However on this site this makes me a crazy liberal.

 

My main concern is related to the debt, each president is trying to outdo itself in deficit spending, trump included.  I know it sounds crazy, but I believe some of the dem candidates will increase the debt at a slower pace than trump.

The democratic nomination process is going to be the type of tightrope walk you used to see on the other side. They have to go far enough left to appease the nuts in their party, but not so far left that they ruin their general chances.
