Recommended Posts

So my inlaws picked up some butterball pre-formed turkey burgers.  I was like meh...

Seared em in a cast iron..5 mins a side with some weber ultimate burger seasoning...

Damn they were awesome...juicy...tons of flavor.

Suprised the hell out of me!!

Turkey is fine. When I go away from beef... lamb and buffalo.

I make them from ground tukey. I substitute ground turkey for burger in everything. Been doing it so long the kids would rather have it in everything except for burgers.

Lamb always tasted real focking weird to me. Buffalo isn't terrible

You can keep your turkey burgers and bacon, and you can keep your lamb everything - I'd rather have a kale salad.

Turkey burgers are great...  It is definitely a nice "change of pace" from a burger...

We've been buying chicken breasts and using the meat grinder on the KitchenAid mixer.  Ground chicken is kind of expensive but, you can find deals on the breasts.  Makes great Chicken burgers, very filling.  Like those better than Turkey burgers, which we occasionally do.

This is what I do now. Just so you know my Albertsons will have chicken breast go on sale in the meat depot for 199/lb. if you ask them they will grind it for you

as opposed to paying 499 for Jennie-o or ground chicken pre packaged.

When it’s on sale I buy 20 lbs. 10 ground 10 whole

Nice, I enjoy grinding up the chicken myself.  Toss in some spices and whatnot.

Are they cheaper than beef? ( maybe )

Are they tastier than beef? ( I doubt it )

Why turkey instead of beef? :dunno:

I might get a grinder and try that. Sounds good.

It's a lot cheaper than ground beef.

If I'm making a burger with anything but beef, put me down for ground bison too. Much leaner than beef and still tasty.

Turkey is for Thanksgiving and/or sammiches, not burgers. :nono:

Thanks.....that was pretty much the response I was hoping for, because I can't see any other reason to do it.

I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but I hope there's not somebody in it that thinks they're "saving the planet" by choosing Turkey over Beef.
