edjr made an interesting point the other day. Can't remember what it was, but it was interesting at the time. Very unlike him.
Mebbe summfin about Pearcy being ugly or along those lines...can't remember..

Either way

I loved both of the bands and liked Crues body of work as a whole better than Ratt, but I have to go with Ratt for the main reason of the lead guitarist.
Warren Demartini.

Nothing against Mick Mars, but Warren just does it for me.

Thoughts?

As much as I loved the ep and Out of the Cellar, they really went downhill after.  The singles were pretty good but the albums were weak.

Best song I've heard live between the two are "Your in Love" by Ratt and "Kick Start My Heart" by Crue. Toss up.

Who did I like better, Crue, who were the better technical and all around band Ratt.

Nikki Sixx literally played the same chords for 20 years. terrible bassist. AMAZING song writer

One of the first concerts I attended was when Poison opened for Ratt, or the Ratt Poison Tour.

As far as the question in the OP, I'd take Crue based on the strength of the first two albums, both of which I really liked.  When Theatre of Pain came out, that was when I learned the term "selling out".

Crue, much like Def Leppard has been overplayed therefore I suffer from burn out. Give me Ratt.

I liked them both. I actually don't like Vince Neil's singing voice. If only I could take Vince Neil's voice out of Dr. Feelgood.

I gotto go with Crue.  Wildside is one of the best songs and videos ever.  After watching it I was gonne become a drummer the same way as after watching Rocky I was gonna become a boxer.  Funny how it all worked out.  I never watched the movie Clerks and yet here I am.

For Motley crue, i was more into too fast for love and shout at the devil.   didn't love much of what they put out after that (same genre as ratt, poison, etc).  Hard rock went limp around 84/85

there were some good tunes on there, but even out of the makeup it was more glam at that point

Also, that's cause metal and thrash were getting bigger, so hard rock took more of the glam angle
