Escaped The Jaws of Hell

4 starters on bye. Said screw it. I hate defeatism so I dropped some players that I wanted to keep and picked up some  junk.

I will say, I do have Wilson so he did in fact fireman carry me out the kill zone. Still barely got out alive. I imagine he must be livid lol. I know I would be.

I sorta did the opposite. Had a bunch of guys on bye, thought I had a decent chance at a win against a 1-7 team, but nope. Everyone not on bye took the week off too. Buttkicker outscored everyone in my lineup except Samuels.

Oh well, don't have to worry about that undefeated season anymore.

Fantasy football is a lot of luck.

I have a team in my league that was 50 point (130 vs 80 projection) favorite and lost by 30.    Sometime players just don't show up.

There’s a bunch of luck, however, you’ll notice that certain league mates are more likely to be in contention each season compared to others.

Couldn't agree more. No disrespect to 'posty' but 9 times out of 10, players that say it's (all luck) are at, or near the bottom of the standings.

It's luck and educated guessing mixed with attentiveness.  Those owners who study, stay ahead of the curve and plan things out are more likely to make better educated guesses and take the luck factor out a little bit.  That being said, trying to control something you have ZERO control over is an exercise in futility.  😉

When people are winning they tend to attribute their success to skill, while when people are losing they tend to attribute their failure to bad luck.  This is a result of ego.  It provides no evidence for or against the argument of whether ff is luck or skill.  In my opinion, it's part luck and part skill.  However, the game is more luck based now than it was in the past.  Everyone has access to greater amounts of information in much less time than they did in the past so that edge you would get from having knowledge about something that other people didn't have becomes smaller and smaller as everyone else also has access to that knowledge at the click of button.  Nowadays you can visit a ff site and make your decisions based off that and it'll get you a .500 or better record without knowing a thing about the game.  I think head to head formats are the epitome of luck based ff where as something like total scoring leagues and best ball leagues are less luck based than head to head.

I don't know what best ball leagues are, but I agree that total scoring leagues are less luck based. I started a thread on the subject of total scoring vs head to head last year.

Seems around 80.00% of people prefer head to head.

In a best-ball (or draft master) league, you don't set your lineups--you are automatically credited with the best possible starting lineup each week.  Traditionally, you don't do waivers or trades either; once your team is drafted, you do nothing but watch it accumulate points throughout the year, and the league is won on a total points basis.

They're great if you love to draft a lot over the summer, but then you get burned out having to do waivers for 20 teams every week during the season--you get all the fun of drafting, without the hangover of league management.  Sort of like birth control for fantasy football.

I think it would be cool to have a hybrid best-ball league, though, where you continued to assemble the best possible roster of players during the season--via trades, waivers, and free agents like in other managed leagues--but then you were credited for your best possible lineup from your current roster every week like in best-ball leagues.  You could even keep the head-to-head format, rather than total points, if you wanted.

Thanks for the explanation. "Sort of like birth control for fantasy football" literally laughing out loud!

I can see how it would be beneficial for someone who has 20 teams. The most I've ever managed in one year is 4, & that seemed like too many!

I haven't played in three years and when I did, I was always near the top...  I was very lucky...

Tell me where the skill is?  Doing research isn't a skill...

Correct...  None of this is a "skill"...  Once one accepts that it is all luck, then the game becomes fun like it was intended...

I managed one of those unexpected victories this week.....just barely surviving. Was playing the #1 team, and for the first time in my FF career was projected to lose by 40 points. He had Rodgers, Lockett, Hill, Edelman, A. Jones, and Barkley.

I had Mahomie injured and Kamara/Lat on bye...and couldn't bear the thought of starting McLaurin this week. Started DMont and Singletary at RB, and picked up Pascal at WR and Seibert at K. When I was done, I was 18 points ahead, still facing Edelman and Barkley in non-ppr. Thanks to Dallas D and Edelman's first fumble in 3 years, won by less than 2 points. Those are the sweetest victories.

Now that's a cool story bro!

If you're really that 'lucky' you should start visiting your nearest casino.

The skill is in how closely you can follow Axe Elf's advice.

It may sound easy, but sometimes it takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to start, say, the Jets DST over the Patriots DST, just because Axe Elf said so.

I did the same, this week. I won a game by one point.

I was down 11 going into MNF, Zeke got me 12
