Enjoy tomorrow's early game!

Recommended Posts

As a Detroit area native I would like to say you're welcome for the 1PM game being utterly meaningless and devoid of any talent so you can enjoy the time with your families and keep your ugly faces away from the TV,

Gotta love Dem Lions!!

FORWARD DOWN THE FIELD!!!!!

I know it's meaningless - but I still love the tradition of watching the Lions kick off Turkey day football.

Gambling solves all lack of interest problems. I got the Bears -3.5 and am currently looking if the other two games show anything worthy of a bet or not.

I know for college I may hit that Ole Miss / Miss St. over 58 tomorrow night.

Who knows? There is a chance that David Blough might QB the Lions. I think the dude is a better passing QB than Driskel, but who knows.come tomorrow? :dunno:

The Bears are actually at -4 (-110) now. Over the last couple days it went from Detroit -1.5 to now the Bears -4.

I'm not sure how much effort I will put into watching it. The Bears put out a product that I really dislike, and I don't see any path to consistent relevance as of now.

It is a Massachusetts thing. High school public schools play a rivalry game each Thanksgiving. Some prep schools in other states, but some of our games go back to the 1890’s.

Sort of a nice thing for the kids.

Lions starting undrafted rookie David Blough at QB.  Good grief.

And, as always, our halftime show is going to suck balls.

That’s actually kinda cool. First I’ve ever heard of it. Are the games that night or during the day?

Typically it is in the morning around 10am. Some teams have started to do Wednesday night, but that seems against tradition.

Older kids come back from college and go to the game. Sort of like homecoming.

My boys really wanted to make the trip up to Detroit to see this debacle tomorrow

I almost caved because it was a chance for them to see Mack play, but I just couldn’t do it.

That's pretty cool.

The only teams left playing in Indiana are the teams playing for a state title in each class. How late does the season run in Massachusetts?

Shouldn't the h.s season be over by now?    What state are you in? We started August 24th,  and our championship games were Nov 15.

Edit: oh, I now see...Massachusetts.

This.

Throw $20 on the game. Start a couple Detroit players that probably shouldn’t be in any of my lineups. Boom, I’m way into the game.

There are 2 tenants to constructing a winning football team and the Lions fail to follow either.

1.  If your organization lacks expertise, keep hiring head coaches with a clear track record of success in the NFL.  You go after winning head coaches when they are freed up like Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh, Marty Schottenheimer, Bruce Arians etc.  If it doesn't work out, go to the next winning head coach.  It'll work probably in less than 3 hires.  Don't ever stop.

2.  QBs selected in the top 5 have about a 50% chance to be franchise QBs.  Outside the top 5, the odds quickly tail way off to 1 in 30.   The lions have only selected 3 QBs in the top 5 in like 60 years.  THAT is a recipe for franchise disaster.  If they detect a franchise quality QB in the top 5, they need to trade a ton of picks and move up.  They also are rarely terrible enough to land a top 5 pick naturally.

The Lions do neither of these things, so they suck eternally.

The Lions actually started down the correct path last decade with the hires of Bobby Ross and Steve Mariucci.  Those are guys who had won in the NFL before.  The problem is that hiring proven winners isn't a guarantee of success with any one guy - its just a high probability.  They stopped with Mariucci and diverted back to hiring unproven head coaches again.  Had they stayed the course they would have found success by now.  There was hope for the franchise and then they got derailed.

The Browns were locked into the same exact spiral of self destruction as the Lions for about 30 years.  The Browns almost never took a QB in the top 5 and never hired proven winners as head coach.  The Haslams have no expertise at winning the NFL and neither did the Lerners.  They just got a winning lottery ticket in hiring John Dorsey who REALLY knows his stuff and the franchise is quickly turning around.  There is expertise in Cleveland now.
