Cruzer 1,992 Posted December 11, 2019 At one time, at it's inception - the U.S. Open was (too) an afterthought. It came and went w/out any fanfare, any hype, any care. Back then it played 2nd fiddle to the U.S. Amateur - that was the real prize in golf - in fact the U.S. Open fields were barely fields at all, just a few dudes playing for a trophy. The Prez Cup is much the same 2-day. Hell I'm as guilty as anyone, the Cup has been going on for 25 years now - I still can't give 2 shiits about it. I also hate the concept of playing Captains. Yes I'm well aware of the precedent set by earlier Ryder Cups, and even circumstances in other sports - still doesn't sit well with me. TW is 0-4 in four-ball matches at Royal Melbourne - says he want to get finished so he can resume his Captain's duties.... Which goes back to my point - either you're a Capt. or your not. Can make the argument it's the players who have to perform, but it certainly doesn't help validate the playing Captain strategy. When your Captain is seemingly more concerned about his own personal glory, and the rest of his team is getting drummed - it's a bad look.
