Mayo on the bread is better than butter, trust me

For any cold meat sandwich, yes. But for grilled cheese? Not so sure.

Plus, I way prefer butter on crackers over mayo.

No I mean putting it on the outside when you cook it, it looks and tastes nearly the same just slightly better with mayo imo

Really?! I have to try it. I thought maybe you meant on the inside. Then I thought, well, maybe dipping it into cold mayo after the fact. Which may work as well especially if you are have a grilled ham and cheese. Interesting.

No, mayo on the outside (griddle side) of the bread. He's right, better than butter.

I may be trying tonight. My GF already ate leftovers. So it's just me tonight on the food side of things. Actually, heading over to the store now for some ham. I like to grill the ham first to char it a bit and take out the moisture. Cheese and mayo have enough.

I did it last night. Mayo side grilled for the inside, butter on the outside. It was real good

Tonight I'm trying light mayo on the outside. Grilling ham steak and adding tomato and cheddar on seeded rye. I will see.

I'm a jalapeno freak but this time will add after I try it cooked without.

Anything added other than cheese is not a grilled cheese sammich. You are correct
