My Starting Pitching Rotation

Recommended Posts

In my lifetime:

Bob Gibson

Tom Seaver

Steve Carlton

Randy Johnson

Pedro.

Koufax did most of his work before I was born.Jim Palmer is very difficult to leave off.  Catfish is close as well.  Jack Morris is a personal favorite and also great, but he doesn’t make it that high. Same for Nolan Ryan.

It's tough for me, as a lot of my baseball viewing was during the steroid era.

Morris - for obvious reasons, being from MN.  Greatest Game 7 pitching performance ever

Maddox - I never seen a man control the strike zone like him

Pedro - had balls of steel

Dave Stewart - just a mean ass glare

I was too young for Bob Gibson, but my grandpa used to tell me stories.  He was a die-hard Cardinals fan.

Stewart was a bad ass.  Weird when you hear him talk. Good list.

Verlander May have a spot when it’s all said and done. Definitely the best of his generation. I can accept some steroid use. But the over the top guys like Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, Pudge and Clemens is where I draw the line. Otherwise Clemens is duking it out with R Johnson and Pedro for a spot.

And I hate not having John Smoltz on my list. But he’s top ten.

I have been to maybe 6 or 7 mlb games. One of them was Maddox vs. Randy Johnson. It was awesome.

I’ll never forget driving into NYC from Jersey coming up from N Carolina and seeing that huge Gooden mural on  one of the buildings on 42nd street after I came out of the of the Lincoln tunnel. Just got back from Japan and I said to myself I guess it’s a METS town now. 1985. It was. Biggest championships in the history of NYC in my time were the 86 METS and Giants, and the 94 Rangers. The city went nuts for those three teams.

Imagine if Maddux pitched today? since they changed the strike zone. He'd be a JAG. Glavine too

A lot of Maddux love. I’ll take David Cone, thank you very much. A real bulldog.

Not from me. The strike zone was embarrassing.

Eric Gregg. I remember watching that game in the bar before a Yankee playoff game and we all said if that happened in the Bronx there would be chairs getting thrown on the field.

We to a Sox-Yanks playoff game in Fenway 1999. Pedro vs Clemens. It sucked. Roger got rocked and everyone in Fenway called him fat. Then Mike Stanton came in and they called him fat too. Which didn’t make sense,  but they were on a roll. Love Fenway. I sat right next to Peskys poll. Took my lumps, it was fun.

Schrezer and Verlander are making their case for top 5.

Clemens would be top 5 for me if it weren’t for the roids.   He, Gibson and Ryan were all cut from the same tough sunofabitch cloth.

Both have maybe 3 solid years left and maybe 2 ok years left

On the all time lists they will both be highly regarded and both should be slam dunk high percent HOf

Yes.  But I look at what Steve Carlton did to his numbers at the end chasing the money. He’s an all timer, but he did himself no favors finishing up. He could have finished with 300 wins and about 200 losses if he got out on time. 100 games over .500 and the 300 is nuts. Clemens is like 150 over.

And he probably doesn't regret it one bit 😅

Yeah. He was probably making more at the end than in his prime. Fat pension too.
