My All Time Lineup

Recommended Posts

My lifetime, and I’m going by the position they played. Can’t make Griffey a LF for example. DH included.

1B- Pujols

2B- Alomar. Not a Joe Morgan guy. Think he and much of the big red machine is overrated

SS- Jeter. No peer

3B- Schmidt. Hardest position to pick. Brett and Chipper are right there and personal favorites.

LF - Manny Ramirez. Another hard spot to pick. Ricky Henderson was the runner up

CF - Griffey. No brainer, Trout is gaining

RF- Vlad Guerrero. Ichiro is right there

C- Johnny Bench.  Easiest spot to pick

DH- Big Papi. Wanted to pick R Jackson but Papi was just as much an October force, if not more.

Like I explained in my pitching post, I don’t include the over the top, no doubt about it guys that totally abused roids. You’ll notice Manny and Papi are still on the list. Guys like McGuire and Sosa and Bonds not. My list.

If you wanted to totally avoid steroid users you could've gone with Edgar at DH.

This list is pretty damn good, we're around the same age.

1B: Frank Thomas

2B: Roberto Alomar

3B: Scott Rolen (Pure homer pick but, when healthy he was as gifted a natural 3rd baseman as there has been.  Health was always a major issue though)

SS: Cal Ripken Jr.

C Mike Piazza

RF: Ichiro

CF: Ken Griffey Jr.

LF: Barry Bonds (Ricky is an extremely close runner-up)

Agreed with Reality that this is a great list; I've got to do something for a while but I'll try to evaluate for tweaks when I get time.  I did want to say that I have been on record as saying that Rickey Henderson is the best baseball player of all time, when compared to others at his position (which in my case is leadoff hitter, not defensive outfielder).  But if you include Bonds, eesh that is tough.

Can’t see how A-Rod is still considered a shortstop. To each his own.
