Did you not read my exchange with MDC in the other thread?  I'll ask you the same question I asked him.  Specifically, which of his kids are running his business while SIMULTANEOUSLY being part of his administration?

No.

I do understand that this is the current toy for people to play with, but it just does not sell, I think it better to stick with other things equally non-relavant

It's not factually accurate.

You're right.  His daughter is not running the family business and his sons are not in his administration.  I do find his daughter and her international business to also be a conflict of interest as well though.

How is his family and their international businesses not relevant?

How are they relevant?  Not potentially relevant.  Truly relevant.

Really?  You don't see any reason why his businesses and his daughter's business couldn't be a conflict of interest while he's serving as President.  There is even a bill for this right now.

Does she still have her fashion business in China or did she completely get out of that now?

You tell me.  You're starting to sound like MDC, someone who forms opinions without knowing the actual facts.  That's not a good way to go through life, and it's a really bad way to go through GC political threads.

How is it relevant? Are you aware of some instance where an action was implemented that suggests a problem exists or are you just upset that it looks a certain way? I mean, other than your feelings about it is there something real to be considered?

You still haven’t given a reason. If you think this situation is unique you are an idiot.

From what I can find it looks as though she shut down her fashion business.  I have no problem admitting if I have something incorrect.

I have concerns that Trump has his family and his business needs placed ahead of what's always best for our country.  I do not trust Trump based on the conflicts of interest there are.  That's the opinion I have.  It's obvious you do not share that opinion and that's fine.

So are you retracting this statement or still clinging to it?

If you're retracting the statement, are you willing to admit there is no proven conflict of interest regarding Trump at this time?

From what I can tell I don't think there has ever been a President that is similar to Trump.  His conflicts of interest are not the same as what we've seen in the past and that's why it's become such a big deal.  It's why there is a bill for it right now.

I retract that statement about Ivanka but I still hold onto my opinion about Trump and his family business.  He still has major interest in his business.

This whole discussion started based upon yours, and MDSho's, assertions about Trump having conflict of interest.  Now you admit you can't show any but because you think he still "has an interest in his business", he shouldn't be President.  Let me lay it out for you.  Having investments has NEVER been illegal, or unethical, when holding public office.  Otherwise, you'd have very few qualified applicants.  What is required is that you not have decision making power in those businesses.  Which is where conflict of interest comes in to play.  I'll admit there's certainly a little more of a gray area when talking about Trump because even though he doesn't have specific decision making powers in his businesses it's obvious if he got legislation passed that benefited hotels it would benefit his business and ultimately him.  That's why I said in the other thread that on some level it sucks.  And it does.  But that shouldn't preclude him from being President and, unless you can show that he's done something like that with the intent of benefiting his business, you don't have a leg to stand on.

And regarding Ivanka.  She is actually worse off as a result of Trump being President.  Her business wasn't a "fashion line in China".  It was a fashion line sold here in many big retail chains.  And most of those dumped her when she went to work in the WH.  That's the main reason she shut her business down.  A business she had put in to a trust before going to Washington so there WOULDN'T be a conflict of interest.

So you're welcome to your opinion.  But you've not shown any actual FACTS or DATA to support it.  And it seems to have also been based on a lot of falsehoods.

One issue that I've always had with people who complained about Trumps' businesses is that they never give specifics.  By that I mean, what policies has Trump put in place that help his businesses?  Did those policies only help him... or did they also help his competitors?  If they also helped his competitors, isn't that a zero sum gain?  If that's the case, how did his policy help him?

As you can tell from MDC and Hawk their complaints aren't based in reality. They are simply talking points they heard from somebody else. When pushed, they have no answers. It's cringe worthy how uninformed they were on this topic, at the very least, and they won't admit it... They've learned quite a bit on this subject.

Would Trump wanting a bailout for hotels be considered a conflict of interest in any of your opinions?

Depends on his involvement in brokering the deal.  The hotels are hurting and they are worthy of assistance.  They don't have the same problems as the cruise lines (not US companies, don't pay US taxes, flout our labor laws, poor environmental record), so I can't see how any reasonable person could say that they don't deserve assistance, regardless of whether Trump owns hotels.  If he were to recuse himself from the discussion and let one of his cronies handle it, then the optics would be so much better, but I don't think that this is one that you can really get worked up about.

Now, casinos...

Like I said earlier, as long as there is plenty of transparency in what Trump does then I'm fine with it.  I think hotels deserve assistance but I also think it would need to be overseen closely because of Trump's interest.

There has to be bigger things to worry about than this, right? At least at this moment.  You’re becoming increasingly Sho-like. A different, non-troll POV is great around here.  But enough with this small ball. You’re living history right now. The trivial nonsense is annoying.

It's not something that I'm really worried about right at this moment.  It was just a talking point about one of my overall concerns with Trump being our President.

We’ll never know how many lives Trump has saved. Imagine she had won? Or Obama was still in charge? Sure they would be getting great press but the bodies would have been piling up so much faster.

We have no idea how many lives he didn’t save as well. We also have no idea what Obama or Hillary would have done. It’s pointless to even argue about it. That’s just a bunch of whining for the sake of whining.

I feel pretty confident in saying Obungler / Hillary probably would not have down to weeks calling coronavirus a hoax and comparing it to the flu. And I doubt they’d use their daily press briefings to complain about governors and brag about their ratings.

:dunno:

He still is not acting quick enough. All restaurants, bars, etc in the country need shut down today and he needs to fund all employees with emergency unemployment insurance.

If he would have done this 2 weeks ago it would have been better, but today is still better than doing it tomorrow.

He should have all of the information. He knows what all the European countries, etc are going through.

The fockstick House liberals are the ones to point a finger at referencing small businesses.  They're holding it hostage for more of Pelosi's pet projects.
