The news went bonkers with the 90s year old man (who was actually in his upper 90s) dying from this. Just unbelievable.
kilroy69 994 Posted March 19, 2020 we had 50- 80 then 120 yesterday and have 336 now out of 2k tests. only 5% of the people infected are 80 and over which is the key demo for death here. My concern is people see the Michigan spreadsheet and think dude only 300 people out of millions? This is so stupid to do what we are doing. What they don't understand is the chart is behind by 5 day. Want to know how many are walking around today? Look at my chart (I have us at day 8, so add 5 days). I estimate 12k people in the metro area alone infected and just don't know it. In 2 weeks pretty much everyone will have it. Unless we continue to take drastic efforts. jerryskids 5,196 Posted March 19, 2020 Arizona is interesting; no business shutdowns at the state or county level, just city. Earlier this week Phoenix (mine), Tucson, and Flagstaff ordered restaurant dine-in/bar/gym/etc. closures. Tempe added on today. But the Phoenix City Council is pushing back against the mayor's decree and may seek to overturn it. Also I can drive an extra two minutes and be in Chandler which, if I understand correctly, the bars and restaurants are still open (or at least not ordered closed). Which means more concentration of people there? This kind of reminds me of the smoking ban from a few decades ago. That started as a city decision until people realized that was untenable; eventually it became statewide.

jerryskids 5,196 Posted March 20, 2020 I posted this in another thread (or this one, there are so many) and didn't get a response; you guys are missing out on some great data. The link below shows real-time fever data from a network of Smart Thermometers, and is weeks ahead of CDC data collection. It has identified both flu spikes ahead of time, and I believe also a Covid situation that wasn't previously known. My county (Maricopa) had a large spike yesterday so I'll be watching it. https://healthweather.us/

Why is California all grey and the Seattle area having insufficient data. California is mostly gray on the "Atypical Illness" tab because those areas have registered flu-like fevers which are within a statistical range close to normal for this type of year. It appears that if the data is ever above the standard deviation, it registers as orange on the map. Areas of Washington may not have enough thermometer data to be statistically significant. Click on your county, or enter your zip code, then scroll down. You'll see the average fever readings and deviation band over time, I presume decreasing as we exit flu season. If you see an upward trend, in a few days you can reasonably expect higher Covid cases reported.

They shouldn’t even be calling them that. They should just call it what it really is. A shutdown of all non-essential businesses Even the cops aren’t gonna do much to try to keep people at home.
