Who's out of a job?

Recommended Posts

Wife will most likely get laid off today.  Daughter as well.  Least it looks like it.

My job is safe....for now...but not sure for how long.

We have plenty of cash.   Save kids....save...Never know when something like this will hit you.

I do IT for a 16 billion dollar Private Equity firm. My team and I have been essential in keeping the deals and finance teams working from home. I've been busier the past 2 weeks, than I have the past 2 months. How long will that last? I am not sure. Waiting to hear later today how the company has done the past 2 weeks. I feel extremely blessed. No one has been laid off or furloughed

I do know that each of the 250 employees at the firm were given a $500 limit to expense equipment to work from home. Monitors/Printers/Peripherals etc. Everyone at the firm already had laptops. I have been into the office 4 times in the past 2 weeks.

We are going to people with voluntary options to reduce their hours or furlough.  Furlough is an alternative to layoffs which allows them to keep benefits.  At the end of this, we need to have the staff to get back to normal, so we don't want them going elsewhere after.

We will also have some layoffs for people that aren't really in our long-term plans anyway.

I have a job for now.  Wife is laid off and just yesterday filed for unemployment as she thought it was only going to be a couple of weeks.

I've shaved once in the last nine weeks and haven't earned a penny since mid January. I couldn't tell you if it were Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday.

Technically, I'm "medical personnel", so I'm still at work.  I'm basically in the Center to do paper work, but on call if needed.  My group is part of Inspira, so if they need me, I'll be out and about.

That is horrible. I bet the casino owners are Republicans.

You should write a program that will skim off a fraction of a cent with every transaction.  Make sure you don't get the decimal place wrong or you'll be in big trouble.

I'm actually in my office.  We closed the lobby.   People still buying cars and homes and having claims, I'm still here to help them.

Did a quick google search, and it turns out there's a term for this scam.  It's called "Salami Slicing".

I'm fortunate to work for a large company that, while impacted, has not really been impacted financially.  In fact, my workload has probably been a little less (knock on wood) due to customer's not starting projects they would have but for this virus.  So, I get to work from home but not work as hard.  Lucky me I guess.

I feel bad for anyone who has been negatively impacted at work.  I hope it's short term with as little impact as possible for you.

I haven't worked since January 16. The first month was planned holiday. So far been getting paid to do nothing. Will they continue next month? Who knows?

I believe the law says they are required to pay us 80% of local minimum wage (which is fock all). However, having foreigners is crucial to their business, they've already had some quit, and it won't be as easy to replace us as it is in most years. They may well continue paying us to do nothing. Thank God I work for a massive school with 10k students that can afford to eat the cost. Smaller schools started stuffing people long ago.

I’ve played these blues in another thread, but I’ll add the look at me here.

Divorce final Feb 18

Closed on new house March 3

My workplace temporarily shut down March 12

I work FT as a supervisor at a music venue. We are officially closed for 3 weeks, but I think everyone knows it will be longer than that.

Scumbags. Can’t be too angry at companies over layoffs and furloughs etc. Forcing employees to reapply and dropping their seniority is just a dirtbag way of reducing everyone’s income.

Sorry to hear it.

Thanks. Yah her casino is notorious for it. Especially management. They start management at a certain rate and give annual raises and Xmas bonuses based on years of service. When those numbers get too high the lay them off and allow them to reapply

the worst thing is that they require credit checks to apply and that some might get screwed by that

Luckily I'm able to do my job remotely.  Definitely came in handy the other summer when I was dealing with cancer. Starting week 4 of completely working from home is starting to suck though.

Job security wise I'd like to think that I'm OK.  Our company is largely govt/military work.  Head legal dude sent out an email with a "essential operations" letter we can print out and show to The Man in order to get to/from work if needed.

Nice to be part of the Defense Industrial Base Sector (DIB).  You down with DIB? Yeah you know me.

Many of those Indian Casinos are actually controlled by Asians. Which should surprise no one.

My boss just sent us a message saying that we need to expect to work from home for the next 3 weeks and wanted to make sure things would still run smoothly.  Instead of saying fuckyou good luck in the unemployment line  his last words were "we will make it through this"  3 more weeks is 5k worth of pay for me bring home in a time when even big guys are cutting bait and running. I am not an emotional guy but I started crying when I read his email

I understand she may need the work so you don’t want to flip them off. But I would absolutely phone that in to the local press and start an anonymous “name and shame” effort. Fock them.

Oh it’s even been in papers and on the news. Bottom line is plenty of people lined up for jobs starting at 80k+

Industry is down.  Very grateful that my company is taking good care of us (no threats of job loss or pay cuts).  About 30% of my clients have temporarily closed. The others are doing curbside take out, and delivery. All suffering.

oooo look at me.  Have acquired 2-3 new clients over the past week or two.

Send me some.  There hasn't been any here on my last 3 trips to the grocery store.  Got some at home, but not sure if it's enough for 4 people for 3 weeks.  I'm absolutely not going back to the grocery store for at least 3 weeks.

3 of my 4 kids are laid off, at least temporarily. Wife is a teacher's assistant at a local school, so she has a 3 week (at least) paid vacation. My daughter that is working had a co-worker test positive last week, so my daughter just had the test this morning, and she's on quarantine nonetheless. If she tests positive, I'll be on a 2 week quarantine since she came home last Friday to do laundry.

I'm working from home 2 or 3 days a week, but it's tough to get alot done from home in my job. I work for "Big Pharma" in manufacturing, so we're an "essential" business not subjected to the 2 week shutdown that Massachusetts is implementing at noon tomorrow (if you look at the list of exempt businesses, it would have been easier if they just listed who has to shut down).
