Antenna TV 3.0 - coming late 2020

Recommended Posts

So they are rolling out a new version of Antenna TV.

1. 4k at 120p.
2. premium sound.
3. range is greatly improved.
4. it will attempt to connect to your home wifi for bonus content (personalized ads, DVR, log what you are watching) otherwise it probably default to generic ads.
5. due late 2020.
6. might be very expensive for early adopters.
7. financed partially by smartphone manufacturers. (smartphones will be able to connect to this as well giving you free TV on the go).

Thoughts?

TV antennas are coming back?  They started coming back big time when the broadcast switched to digital.

3.0 will be a great option when broadcasters start using it.  New 2020 LG OLEDs offer a 3.0 tuner in their higher end trims, looks like it's ~$500 or so extra for that feature.

ETA: I wouldn't even consider it until 2021-22.

no its not, I have to buy something

and I already get free tv anyways, and I could care less if its HD or 4k

Dude, NFL in 4k HDR was fantastic this year.  But if you weren't impressed from the SD to HD jump years ago then I suppose its moot.

I just dont pay enough attention to tv or movies to care, I just mostly have it for background noise

I have an antenna at one of my rental properties. It works focking fantastic. It gets like 50+ channels in just as good HD as cable does.

The only time it doesn't work well is during really heavy rain storms.

The HD you get from an antenna should actually be better quality than what you get from cable or satellite because it's not as compressed.  If people don't have an antenna for their home then they're missing out.
