Strat-O-Matic Baseball simulated the 2020 baseball season...

GLEN HEAD, N.Y., March 26, 2020—The Major League Baseball season may not have opened today in stadiums across North America, but Strat-O-Matic (www.strat-o-matic.com), the market leader in sports simulations, hopes fans will enjoy the next best thing as it announces results from its first day of simulating the 2020 campaign through its innovative Baseball Daily platform. At 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT each day, Strat-O-Matic will announce the results, standings, statistics and key game highlights from that day’s scheduled contests through the website, social channels and multimedia presentations.

And just as Opening Day has produced some of baseball’s memorable games, the Strat-O-Matic simulation included numerous exciting contests. The defending champion Washington Nationals knocked off the Mets, 4-3, on a ninth-inning, tiebreaking home run by Howie Kendrick off Mets closer Edwin Diaz. Rafael Devers’ ninth-inning solo shot off Ken Giles gave the Red Sox a 3-2 win at Toronto. Colorado’s Garrett Hampson’s RBI double followed by David Dahl’s two-run single keyed a 10-7, 10-inning victory at San Diego. And Kolten Wong’s leadoff bomb off Raisel Iglesias in the top of the ninth lifted the Cardinals over the Reds.

Pinch hitters also produced two late-inning heroics for wins. The Milwaukee Brewers walked off the Chicago Cubs, 7-4, on a bottom of the 11th, three-run home run by Brock Holt, while Johan Camargo came off the bench to take Yoan Lopez out of the yard in the top of the ninth to propel the Braves past the Diamondbacks.

And though not a last at bat win, Baltimore scored twice off Adam Ottavino in the seventh inning to ruin the Yankees’ debut of Gerrit Cole in a 3-2 Birds win at Camden Yards.

Thursday’s game results are listed below. Full results, standings and boxscores are available at http://www.strat-o-matic.com/2020-season-simulation/.

Lineups and pitching matchups each day are selected in part by fans via social media, special guest managers and Strat-O-Matic’s own team of experts.

“The opening day results reflect the realism and unpredictability of baseball,” said Hal Richman, Strat-O-Matic founder. “I think it’s fitting that so many of today’s simulated results produced exciting finishes, and we look forward to how the rest of the Strat-O-Matic season unfolds, until the on-field games return.”

Have they ever run these things using opening day numbers for previous seasons to see just how accurate any of this is?

I would too. Spent a good part of the late 70’s and early 80’s with it. Great math skills to be had.

My favorite was the Hall of Fame Series A - Old school: From Cobb and Mathewson to DiMaggio and Koufax

http://www.strat-o-matic.com/product/hall-fame-series/

Me too. I kept stats across a couple of seasons. Those cards were damn close. I only know about Arky Vaughn because of that (and others)

We also did the playoff teams - 78 Yanks, Royals, etc.

It might be the only game they win all year but the Mets ALWAYS win on Opening Day. This thing is stupid.

Walter Johnson was brutal. Mel ott was Homer or strikeout vs him if I recall.

Sh!t is broke, deGrom isn't giving up 7 hits.  Mets blew his lead late and lost, that part...  Legit as fock.

LOL, as a Pirates fan, I had to check out how that rationalized the Pirates winning 4-1 when Archer pitched.  Some thoughts...

Bryan Reynolds going 2-4 is not a surprise, neither is Bell going 0-4.  Polanco getting hurt isn't a surprise either.  The surprises are Moran going 3-4 and Archer pitching 6 scoreless innings.  Archer is good for at least 1 or 2 HR's per game.

Nice to see the Bucco's off to a 1-0 start. 😂

MLB network has been doing the 20 greatest games . Must just be from the 70’s on. 6 of the games are Yankee games. Seems about right. If it were truly all time it would probably be 12-13 Yankee games. Fun fact: I was at three of them!

March 29th Highlights

Opening series have wrapped up today. Hot starts have led to sweeps by Boston, Texas, Oakland and the Dodgers.

Rafael Devers hits a game-tying HR (his 4th homer in 3 games) and the Sox win on a JD Martinez 3-run HR in 12 innings.

The Mets avoid the sweep behind Rick Porcello’s 8 K’s in 7 shutout innings in his first start with the team. They hold on 1-0 over the defending champion Nationals.

Adam Frazier had 4 hits and 2 RBI as it takes 10 innings for the Pirates to topple the Rays 7-6.

Cesar Hernandez, Carlos Santana, Jose Ramirez, and Jordan Luplow all had 3 hits each to power the Indians past the Tigers 9-5.

March 30th Highlights

The first Monday of the season is here! Only one undefeated team remains, let’s check in on the full action:

Jorge Soler goes yard 3 times and drives in 6 runs as the Royals blow out Detroit, 12-6.

The Cubs come back down 2 in the ninth before Ian Happ hits a walk-off homer to defeat the Pirates 6-5.

Rafael Devers homers again! His 5th in 4 games is not enough as Orioles edge the Red Sox 4-3.

The Mets barely hang on 2-1 over the Phillies. Steven Matz goes 6 strong innings with no runs and 6 K’s. Edwin Diaz gives up a run but strands runners at 2nd and 3rd for the save.

Tampa Bay hits 5 homers with 2 from Austin Meadows to take down the Yankees 7-2.

The Rockies’ Trevor Story hits two homers and one in the 9th to break the tie handing the Dodgers their first loss of the season.

Evan White hits his first Major League home run as Seattle beats the Twins 6-5 in a battle between two previously win-less teams.

The Padres’ Dinelson Lamet outduels Felix Hernandez in his Braves debut as San Diego takes home the 1-0 victory.

March 31st Highlights

Madison Bumgarner faced his former team, the Rangers opened their new ballpark, and Rafael Devers didn’t homer?! Let’s check in on the top highlights from Tuesday’s games:

Joey Gallo is the trivia question answer to who hit the first home run in Globe Life Field. Todd Frazier added two more as Texas remains undefeated with an 11-4 victory over the Angels.

The Indians and Franmil Reyes continue to mash. Reyes’ 3rd HR of the season is a walk-off winner for Cleveland.

The Blue Jays cough up a 7-0 lead but manage to win in extra innings over the Reds, 8-7.

Jean Segura drives in both Phillies runs and Aaron Nola strikes out 12 Mets to get his first win of the season in a 2-1 win.

Kwang-Hyun Kim makes his ML debut and stymied Brewers hitters, limiting them to 3 hits and 2 runs over 7 innings picking up the win.

Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner stepped on the mound against his former Giants for the first time. He struck out 10 in 7 shutout innings for his 1st victory as a member of the Diamondbacks.

Oakland needed 11 innings to beat the Astros 4-3 with Ramon Laureano’s solo HR being the walk-off game winner.

Max Kepler hits 3 homers and drives in 6 of the 7 Twins runs as Minnesota wins their first ballgame of the season, 7-0 over the Mariners.

Former teammates Zack Wheeler and Jacob deGrom face off. Scoreless through 4, both give up big innings. New Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius hits a 3-run HR off Seth Lugo for a Philadelphia win.

The Angels score 3 in the top of the 9th, all with 2 outs, to rally and hand the Rangers their first loss 7-6.
