I'll have too... it won't happen often.  Though, I'm surprised they have this many wins at this point.  When I thought we'd have a full season, I was thinking that the Pirates would be contenders for the worst season in MLB history.

I am so amazed that they can shake and roll those dice for all of those games.  Must be amazing to watch that happen.  Do they have just 2 guys or do they have one guy per team and they change up based on who is playing?  Is social distancing being followed?

May 19th Highlights

Let’s check out the key highlights from today’s games:

Zac Gallen wins his 4th game of the season with lots of help from the D-Backs hitters. They score 10 runs (mostly off the Mets bullpen) on their way to a 10-3 win. Ketel Marte hit one of three Arizona homer uns.

The Cardinals string together six straight baserunners in the bottom of the 7th and beat Atlanta 5-2. Edmundo Sosa goes 3-4 with a run scored in the win.

Nelson Cruz hit HR #16 and drove in his 45th and 46th runs of the year as Minnesota beats Baltimore 8-5. Luis Arraez added two hits to extend his league-leading batting average to .364.

The Reds break a 1-1 tie in the 11th inning and go on to win 4-2 over Cleveland in the first game of the 2020 battle for the Ohio Cup. The win gives them 7 out of their last 8 and puts them back at .500 for the first time since March 30th.

Nick Goodrum ended a HR away from the cycle. He scored 3 runs and knocked in 4 in the Tigers 10-6 win. Miguel Cabrera hit his 480th career home run.

Hyun-Jin Ryu went 9 scoreless innings but left with a no-decision amid a 0-0 tie. The Astros finally broke through in the 13th with an Aledmys Diaz homerun.

Kansas City lost two pitchers to injury but still manage to win, 5-3. The Royals bullpen needed to go 8 1/3 after Danny Duffy left in the 1st inning. Jorge Soler knocked in his 50th RBI of the season already through only 48 games.

Trey Supak gets his 1st Major League win after going 5 scoreless innings against the Yankees. The Yankees had 11 hits on the day but left 8 runners on base in the loss.

The leadoff spot for the Dodgers did damage in their win over Philadelphia. Joc Pederson homered twice and had an RBI double. Later, A.J. Pollock pinch-hit for Pederson and homered.

The Nationals scored 22 runs while beating the Mariners 22-5. The 22 runs scored is the highest in franchise history for an interleague game. Trea Turner had 5 hits and drove in 5 runs. Victor Robles drove in 6 runs.

May 20th Highlights

Let’s check out the key highlights from today’s games:

Arizona shuts out the Mets behind 6 innings from Madison Bumgarner. He allowed only two hits, both coming in the 6th inning, but struck out Michael Conforto and Pete Alonso to end the threat. Jacob deGrom takes the hard-luck loss, allowing 1 run over 6 innings.

A 4-run 7th inning provided all of Atlanta’s scoring and it was enough to beat St. Louis, 4-1. Sean Newcomb pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out 5.

Anthony Santander and Chris Davis homer in the Orioles 7-5 win over the Twins. Jose Iglesias made a run-saving play in the 8th then doubled home an insurance run in the 9th.

The Cubs pile on for 14 runs while in a win over the Pirates. Anthony Rizzo had 4 hits and Javier Baez had 4 RBI in the win.

Shogo Akiyama returns from the IL and immediately has 4 hits in a 9-6 Reds win. The 5-time All-Star in Japan has been the Reds best player this season and now leads MLB in hitting at .359.

The White Sox score 4 runs in the 8th to break a 2-2 tie. The inning was highlighted by Jose Abreu’s 5th homerun of the season.

Jorge Soler tortured Shohei Ohtani and the Angels today. Soler homered twice and drove in all 5 runs in the Royals 5-4 win. Soler is the first player to 20 homeruns and now has 55 RBI on the season, putting on a remarkable 66 HR/182 RBI pace.

Three consecutive ninth-inning hits for the Red Sox score the winning run to beat Tampa Bay 5-4 at Fenway Park. Rafael Devers walk-off single capped a 3-5 day where he drove in 3 runs.

Jake Diekman entered a tie game in the 10th inning but could not locate and the Rangers were able to score the eventual winning run without a hit. Diekman struck out the leadoff hitter but then walked two batters, followed by a wild pitch, a strikeout, and a second wild pitch that brought home the run. Jonathan Hernandez was able to close out the game with a perfect bottom of the 10th.

I met Zane Smith when I was a kid.  It just so happened that the summer I met him (1990), he got traded to the Pirates.  I followed him with the Pirates and stuck with them ever since.

Yeah, he was pretty cool too.  While on vacation, we went to Montreal and saw an Expos / Pirates game, the Expos won.  Later that week, on the weekend, we were out and we met him.  I remember my mom saying, "oh, we saw that man at the game."  My dad, brother, and I were confused.  Thinking that we didn't meet anyone.  When my dad asked where we met him, she said that we didn't meet him, he was playing.  Well, the 3 of us laughed it off.  We were at a small restaurant (for lunch), not fancy or anything, but he was there with his wife (pregnant at the time), and daughter.  My mom said that it was him, so I being brave and stupid walked up to him and said, "Excuse me, but my mom thinks you were playing the Wednesday night at that baseball game, do you think you can just let her know that wasn't you?"  Well, his wife started laughing.  She looked at him and said, "wow, I might have competition, no one ever recognizes you."  He laughed at that.  After we were done eating, my mom was outside talking to his wife.  We ended up going to an ice cream place and talking with them for like 2 hours.  Zane talked about pitching in the minors then in Atlanta.  He gave us a couple of pitching tips.  My brother pitched in little league at the time, so he started throwing the change up and curve that Zane taught us.  We actually passed that info down to my nephew who is left-handed.  Something like 2 weeks later, my dad told us that he got traded to Pittsburgh.  In his first game that he started (I think a week later), the game was on tv because the Pirates were good at time, and ever since then I just rooted for him.  I remember him pitching 1 year in Boston before going back to Pittsburgh for his last year.  I just stuck with them after that.

I never saw a game at Three Rivers, but saw plenty at Veteran's stadium.  Since the two were pretty much the same, I can understand your feelings about it.  PNC Park is awesome.  I've gone to a game/series there once a year... well, almost.  I missed a few here and there.  It's not that far of a ride, only 5.5 hours.

That is a great story...  Thank you for sharing...

Nolan Arenado homered twice and Trevor Story homered in his second consecutive game as the Rockies beat Arizona 9-6.

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani each homer in the Angels 11-6 win over the Rangers. Ohtani knocked in 4 runs in the win.

The Cardinals hit three home runs in their 8-1 win over Toronto. Jack Flaherty goes 6 strong innings in his first start off the IL.
