A Million Confirmed Infections By When?

Recommended Posts

I think people need to stop being alarmed at that statistic alone.  It's  fairly common knowledge that China is mis reporting their numbers.  Russia too.

The U.S. as a country has many more people than Italy, the U.K. South Korea, etc.  Other countries that we can trust their data.  Therefore of course we will lead the number of infections detected because we are testing the most people.

The number I look at the most is the percentage of people testing positive to deaths of this virus.  Right now it's around 1.5% .

That number is misleading also as it counts people who are critically ill and may yet die. Once you actually start getting decent numbers of recovered patients the comparison will be more accurate.

This is the one thing I despise about the media...  Let's go with that 1.5% death rate...  That is what the media talks about 24/7 and this is what scares people shitless...  Say people that get the virus have a 98.5% chance of living instead?  This would give people more hope IMO...  Yes you can still talk about self-quarantine, this and that, but the media must always talk negative...

I wonder if a Democrat was in the White House, what would their tone be?

I think the death rate is for confirmed cases also, so it is probably much lower than it seems.

Come on, now. The media has long been focused on negative and shock. Obama was in office during the 2009 H1N1 epidemic and I sure as hell don't recall news media talking about it as a minor thing that almost no one will die of. Sensationalism has been the rule of thumb since William Randolph Hurst over a century ago, and probably before that. No one would be talking about the % chance you won't die because that doesn't sell papers/get ratings.
