Hardcore troubadour 12,631 Posted April 8, 2020 I just finished a book on the Yankees of the early 90’s. In the book it was pointed out that the Braves had “team of the 90’s” imprinted on their WS rings. Ooof. Never mind the Blue Jays had already won 2 WS, beating the Braves in one of them, and the decade was half over. We all know how the rest of the 90’s worked out. All time stupidity from the Braves there. Serves them right.
TimmySmith 2,782 Posted April 8, 2020 Which color did you use for Jeter's face? It's kind of reddish. 1

JustinCharge 2,397 Posted April 8, 2020 If you watch the Braves clinch the 95 series, Bob Costas anoints them "team of the 90s" LOL.
cbfalcon 824 Posted April 8, 2020 I struggle greatly with whether or not they were overrated underachievers or all time greats.
Hardcore troubadour 12,631 Posted April 8, 2020 1-4 in the Big game says it all. The N.Y. Football Giants played in the championship 5 times between 1958-1963. Didn’t win one of them. Not great.
vuduchile 1,941 Posted April 9, 2020 Glavine, Madddux, Smoltz and Jones are all time great individual players. But they were not a great team.
frank 2,144 Posted April 9, 2020 That’s a lot of Braves WS rings.
Utilit99 4,099 Posted April 9, 2020 The Braves were kind of like the Buffalo Bills. Dominant except for the big game. Both were great teams. No doubt about it.

Disagree. 8 divisions in 9 seasons, 5 pennants. Irony is the weakest regular season team in those 9 seasons is the one that won the WS. Like Util said, it would be like saying the Bills weren't a great team.

Great teams get it done.

Hardcore troubadour 12,631 Posted April 9, 2020 Any way you slice it, they were not the team of the 90’s.
Hardcore troubadour 12,631 Posted April 9, 2020 The reason the Bills didn’t win a super bowl is their offense was based on a gimmick. Gimmicks get figured out.

The Bills made 4 super bowls in a row but they didn't beat any great teams in the playoffs. The AFC beneath them was very weak.

Thurman Thomas lost his helmet Norwood was wide right Mark focking Rypien destroyed their secondary They were 6 1/2 pt favorites against the Giants but lost to Hostetler In '92, they played a total for 4 teams with a winning record in the reg season 9 turnovers against the Cowboys, giving up 52 points Even Leon Lett's all-time dumbassery didn't impact the game Led the Cowboys 13-6 at halftime, then gave up 24 and lost 30-13 They were absolutely NOT a great team. Vince44 202 Posted April 12, 2020 Yankees were not relevant in the decade until 1996 and Toronto did absolutely nothing after 1993.

The Yankees had the best record in the AL in 1994 and made the playoffs in 1995. People just say things. And Toronto still had a better decade than the Braves.
